Clearly, they will be at Cup of China.

And the US could have them at Skate America-USFS will want a 2nd spot for S&B, and it would be a good swap for the Chinese as well.

Samuelson/Bates aren't eligible for GP invitations since they didn't compete last season at all and aren't on the Seasons Best list. And they have no guarantees because when the 2008/2009 data was purged from the World Ranking list, they slipped way down to 39th. The only GP event they can do is Skate America.

I hope they will be given Nebelhorn and perhaps one other Senior "B" event.

I'm so hoping for the best for this team . I'm sure Z/S will work to get them whatever assignments they need to be in contention. A bit OT , but has anyone heard how Evan's recovery is progressing ?

How about Madison Hubbell & Zach Donohue? Hubbell/Hubbell are currently the World Ranking 23rd; they were also the 4th at nationals. On the other hand, Donohue was on even on the world ranking list, probably because he had three partners within the three years, and had not had chance to accumulate points with a same partner?

Is it possible for H/D to be invited to GP event other than SA?

    Theoretically.

What needs to happen is that they get a season's best score. They can do that at select senior B's (Finlandia and Nebelhorn are the biggies and are before the GP season). If they get a season best score that is 2/3 (or higher) of the SB best score from the 2010/2011 season (that is, D/W's world score of 185.27, so a score of 123.51). If they do get that score, or higher, they get placed on the substitution list.

The substituion list is comprised of every eligible team/skater. Should a vacancy come up, the seeded teams (top six at worlds) get first crack at it for a third event. Should all teams say no (or already have a third event), the GP would than be assigned to the highest team on the SB list (regardless of whether they have one or no GP assignments).

That said, it's highly unlikely we'll see them on the GP circuit.

I spoke with Evan Bates briefly at Nationals. He said he was back on the ice and looking forward to next season. They will keep their FD but will of course have to change the SD. It's likely that Igor will want them to do Nebelhorn and or Finlandia or both to get them some competitive chops for the season.

Thanks for the update on Evan. Glad to hear he is back on the ice.

    Good news. Thanks !

I'd been hoping they'd keep the FD ..I'd been thinking it was a perfect choice for them and really looking forward to it.

Help ! news please..just saw that Thornhill ( plus an event in China ) will now be senior B events ( reported on FSU) ..but only for singles and pairs. ( I hope they'll add dance ).. I've been looking forward to it , as usual , as an early chance for news of how the dancers are doing...and don't we have dancers in NA ( or training in NA) who need to build points ? without so much travel ?..??...??

I need reassurance ! Who has the scoop ?

Perhaps there will be another announcement?

And perhaps it is a misprint, since Thornhill had both junior & senior ice dance events last year?

But once again, I see that the USFS has completely dropped the ball on getting any events designated as a Senior B competition. Lame, Lame, Lame.

I'm befuddled...On the ISU page I linked to ,if you click through the more info link , they have a chart that shows singles and pairs for Sr. , Jr. and Nov. for Thornhill , (Sr & Jr for China ) Could they maybe give a dance event to the States , then ?

The way Ice Dance is burgeoning in NA , this seems weird to me.

Thornhill might just want to keep it's club status for the dance events, given that it seems like a hotbed of young dance teams. Making it into a senior B likely gives them less chance to perform. I think Detroit or Lake Placid should probably step it up there.

Well, surely someone should..otherwise the ice dancers are the only ones left who'll have to traipse halfway around the world to have any opportunity for sanctioned competition ( SA and SC aside).

Are you thinking that Thornhill may still have some kind of dance event , just not in competition ? Has Thornhill always had novice competition or is that new ?

Is there something I'm unaware of that will make me feel better ?

In the past, Thornhill has had events down to Juvenile---SR, JR, NV, PN, JV---in all disciplines.

I did talk to Pat St. Peter and Bob Horen about Senior B events in the US and they said they are about a year away. There has to be a tech panel from 4 different countries and several judges/skaters from 4 diff countries in order to count for intl points. Maybe Thornhill didn't have 4 diff intl tech panel for dance.
