    Not if that somebody has placed lower than 3rd in the Technical Program. Basically, top 3 from the TP are considered even and at an advantage to win the competition.

    Yes, but the point is, now you can build up a lead in the short. That way, you can come in 2nd or lower in the free and still win.

    That's true. Concersely, a skater can make up for a poor SP with a brilliant LP and win.

    OTOH, the kind of lead by ranking after the Technical Program under the 6.0 was almost insurmountable. So in a way, the lead from the first program was much more important than under the current IJS.
