Sasha was almost always spot in with her dresses. The black and white swan lake dress was divine. As was the blue Dark Eyes dress she wore in Torino and the red Espana Cani:

Her pure white Swan Lake dress was beautiful too--very balletic.

Jenny Kirk got it just right with the Chicago dress. Loved that one.

Remember when Mao always looked beautiful on the ice?

that one was simply angelic.

Cutest Kristi dress was also from one of those Christmas specials -- maybe the same one. The red-with-white-fur-cuffs Santa Claus dress for Rudolph the Red-nosed reaindeer.

Unless, of course, it is the black and white tuxedo dress with pink petticoat that she wore for her jive on Dancing with the Stars:

Bad Kristi dress: http://assets.usoc.org/assets/documents/attached_file/filename/4743/Kristi_Yamaguchi_web.jpg

You nevre know what will turn up, that's for sure. I just Googled "Kristi Yamaguchi" and down at the bottom where is says, "people who searched for Kristi Yamaguchi also searched for..." -- one of the entries was "Kristi Yamaguchi feet." Are there people out there who are searching for pictures of Kristi Yamaguchi's feet? (Probably skating enthusiasts who are making sure she is on an outsude edge for her Lutz. )

Best costume. I can't believe I forgot Jenny Kirk, All that Jazz!

i remember the rudolf the red nose reindeer dress--very cute indeed. about the blue danube dress you showed--my thinking on that dress has evolved. i used to think it was quite pretty but now i think the bare but not bare shoulder look stole a bit of attention from kristi's skating while i tried to figure out the dress :) still overall kristi is easily among the best dressed.

that is quite a dazzling dress on ms. kirk :) and it goes with her program, too.

My top 3 list

I would pobably be able to do a top 20 of all Kwan costumes but my all time favorite is:

Laura is always stylish but I will pick this one for the bold colour:

I am not a big fan of Carolinas dresses but this one was fantastic:

I have to think about the "worst" list..but Mao's Olympic LP dress is this first one that comes to my mind!Such a shame on such a beautiful girl.

Worst - In general I don't like "shredded" costumes, but I'll still say that the some of the ice dancers' costumes are the biggest offenders here

I can't find the link right now, but in the 2006 Olympics, Kiira Korpi was dressed in something really simple and spectacular. Of course, that woman could wear a paper bag and look stunning. I vaguely recall that all the Finnish ladies (Korpi, Lepisto, and I think Poykio) were gorgeously dressed in Torino.

I love fashion threads!

Favorite Michelle: There were so many I absolutely loved and very few I just didn't like. Just to list a few of my favorites:
SP and LP dresses from 1996
LP dresses from 1997 and this SP dress.
All of these from 2002-2004. Vera Wang is wonderful at classic elegance. None of the dresses were ever over-done...just perfect.

Michelle had quite a few that she only wore once. Like this one from 2001 Black Swan. I can't remember which program this was for, but it was around 2001 I believe...

And this dress she wore on the cover of Sports Illustrated...

Favorite Yu-Na: She always looks so regal in black and because of her gorgeous arms, sleeves make her look so elegant. That includes her Homage to Korea dress...

The only dress I can recall not being particularly fond of was her Miss Saigon dress. The one arm, the pink collar, the mesh color...it just did nothing for her.

Favorite Mao: Mao went thru a pretty dark period in terms of fashion over the last few years. IDK what she was thinking, especially for these. Spew...:disagree: All the lace and flowers and ruffles and horrible colors. Just yuck...

She made a few steps this year, though a few of her dresses were still a little questionable. The majority of Mao's dresses leave me on the fence. They toe the line between being lovely or a bit too much. Like these...I like these but they're very close to being a bit too much.

I liked these from 2007-2009 on her. You could still see her under the dress , which wasn't the case for a while. I also like this dress from Claire de Lune...lovely program too.

Caroline Zhang always has lovely dresses too. I believe Del Arbour does her dresses...

I have Googled and searched for the controversial outfit Katarina Witt wore that sparked a rule change in skating costumes. If anybody finds it please post it here.

if someone remembers when MK wore those once-only dresses kwanatic showed, please post :)

kwanatic, for what program and which event did mao wear the dress in the middle from your 2007-2009 panel?

i generally don't like the shredded look, i.e. the fringe on MK's first EoE dress, which makes it hard to see her elbow when she does that arm akimbo sit-spin. i don't like fabric tails flapping around the wrist, because it makes it hard to appreciate the line of the arms. especially if the skater has lovely hands.

i didn't mind yeonah's miss saigon dress, though i could have done without the choker design. of the caroline dresses you posted, i like the black and white one best. i also liked mirai's coppelia's dress and her gold and black pirates of caribbean dress a lot.

i generally like the simpler designs, but i think nicole bobek is one who looks best in ornate, highly sequined stuff :) 1998 US nationals LP and 1997 both short and long program dresses are in my annals of best dresses. didn't she use kristi yamaguchi's dress designer for many years?

Here is the revised version, after the ISU made here sew some feathers on the bottom to make a skirt-like effect. I couldn't find the controversial one without the feathered fringe, but it was the 1988 Europeans SP.

Oh, yes-I did like Sasha's original Swan Lake Dress? I didn't like the one she wore at Worlds, and I hate her yellow dress:
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...tbm=isch&chk=sbg&um=1&itbs=1&biw=1440&bih=688

Sasha was always hit or miss for me. I didn't like her preference of using plunging necklines, and sometimes I didn't get her color schemes. But when she was a hit, like all three of her R&J LP and exhibition dresses, I really liked what she chose. And I thought she looked great in long sleeves.

I prefer simple elegance, which is why so many of Michelle, Caroline, old Mao, Laura and Joannie would make my top 20.

At the moment I'd pick Sasha's black and white Swan Lake costume. In general she was costumed to perfection and the dresses seemed like part of the programs--thus it's hard to choose one as the best costume (as opposed to the best program), but this one is pretty unique:

Speaking of Swan-like costumes, I must add Alissa Czisny's 2009 SP dress to the "best" list:

Katarina's SP program from the 1987/1988 season was the one that brought out the costume rule. It was at its skimpiest at the beginning of the season.

Boy, that thing is a monstrosity on several levels. What exactly did they find objectionable, besides the hat, LOL?

^^ I agree Sarah Meier's "princess" costume of a couple years ago was just perfect.

And, unlike MKFSfan, I have no problem with plunging necklines, and also love this bold, simple, and sexy costume of Sasha's... again, perhaps partly because I love the program (God Bless America) - it's my favorite of her exhibitions. This is exquisite skating.

a few little blue feathers do not constitute a skirt. that is what was considered objectionable.

I agree. Sasha wears a plunging neckline well. and God Bless American program and dress were exquisite.

That first one (Black Swan) was from the GPF in 2001. That other one (with the blue and lace that looks very similar to Carolina Kostner's SP dress from this past season)...I can't freakin' find the link! It looks like it was from around 2001/2002...but I can't remember which competition it was.

kwanatic, for what program and which event did mao wear the dress in the middle from your 2007-2009 panel?

It was her Claire de Lune SP at 4CC in 2009. She only wore it that one time and unfortunately it wasn't a good performance. The one arm and open back, plus the color and sheer material really worked here. I thought she looked lovely...even if the skating wasn't. :p
