Yes Dmitriev's final placement here is sad. That Oda-like mental lapse of screwing up what jumps/combos belonged in the SP was what sunk his boat, otherwise he'd be on the podium here.

It seems he forgot that this is junior competition, not senior one and a mandatory jump is lutz but not axel. He made 3F, 3A and 3L+3T, loosing the last combo and a lot of points. It would be sad if it wasn't so funny.
Jason is going to need to start trying his triple axel if he wants to take his skating to the next level. He has better all around skills then most of the other Junior skaters but is getting beat on technical content.
I'm sure both Jason and his coach know it. That's why he is practicing 3A. He didn't introduce 3A here because his jump is not consistent enough, yet. Let's hope Jason's 3A is ready by JGPF.
Yeah!!! Brown was beaten by a 15 years old skater with 25 points in this competition... And he was beaten in PCS, too. Brown is a beautiful skater, but maybe in training his jumping has not gotten as much attention as needed? In my opinion he also lacks speed and attack.

But jumping training isn't only about revolutions. I think Brown's team are not choosing to put a 3A in competition before it's ready. (He did try them during summer competitions, but he's received << on them so far). So if I was his coach, why would I have him risk getting a << in international competition when he do a beautiful 2A and get + GOE on it? Me thinks is he's practicing it and we'll see it sooner than later.
He has great edging (he does not flutz or lip) and great flow out of his jumps, me thinks that is just as important as the number of revolutions. We've seen cases of people rushing to have all these jumps in their arsenals only to suffer because they didn't learn proper technique. And I disagree about lack of attack,there is no tentativeness when he jumps -- he goes and commits to each and every jump. I think his team expects the same of his Axel. They won't do it if he can't show that same commitment.
I think his team has great attention to detail -- that's why he's been able to beat skaters with 3A. They don't just focus on the jumps -- they have soaked so many points on his nonjump elements -- in his short program he got ALL LEVEL 4 -- even the step sequence!
Also, Brown is not that old as you seem to indicate. He's 16 (he'll turn 17 in December). He's a little over a year older than Han.
So if he wants to be the best, yes he needs the 3A. But am I worried? Hardly.
Yes, Brown is a good spinner, but Yan is not bad either (in sp he got twice the level 4). By the way, in the freeskate Brown got < mark twice. Yan got -1.57 for the 4T, but otherwise all his jumps were clean as a whistle. And he has a great flow out of his jumps, too. Also they are really effortless and his speed is awesome. Actually young Kulik came into my mind as I watched Yan´s jumping and speed.

Oh dear, not great for the USA. Courtney Hicks out. John Nicks isn't the type who would pull her out without something being wrong though. She must be either injured or ill.
I'm not disputing Han's skills at all! Obviously he's very good. He's the reigning JGPF silver medalist, after all, so I expect him to be the standard bearer on things.
I simply was responding that I don't think Brown has anything to worry about. Yet. I think his team has been good about advancing him at the right times. Based on last season, I think there's still a lot of good stuff to come. He is not an early season skater, so the fact he's done relatively well early in the season means that he's doing the right things so far.
Obviously if he enters seniors internationally next year without a solid 3A (a la Adam Rippon) then I would start worrying.

Wow. Julia got 119! That would have put her in the top six at 2011 Worlds -- at the senior level. Incredible.
