Wow Russia now has three girls 15 and under that are insanely talented.
Yes, they will.
Also, qualifying for Junior Worlds this season will be a blood bath! Right now the three frontrunners for a spot seem to be Adelina Sotnikova, Elizaveta Tuktamisheva and Julia Lipnitskaia (Polina Shelepen will have to hope to qualify for Europeans). It's too early to tell, but can they sweep the podium?
I think Liza and Adelina will go to JW because there's nowhere else they could go. A team of Sotnikova, Lipnitskaia and Tuktamysheva could sweep the podium.
My thoughts on the ladies:
Lipnitskaia: She skates with a poise, speed, and confidence that's unmatched by anyone else in this field. Fabulous. That said, I hate this program. I think she's musical, but I also think that the choreography does her no justice.
Miller: With that dress, I would've guessed Swan Lake! Love her. She's so musical. Even the spins seem to go with the music and she uses her arms so well! That said, she's totally tiny and her jumps don't seem all that technically sound. Lutz was definitely short.
Shershak: What's not to love? She's lacking the hard jumps, but what she does do is lovely. She is so smooth and elegant! Volchkova is quickly becoming one of my favorite coaches. I don't expect her to hang on to the podium, but I'd love it if she could. I hope she has a clean skate tomorrow.
Hicks: I think she has the potential to be quite interesting and voidy, but at this point, if the jumps don't work, nothing else does. It was a really flat skate. Also, that first leap into a spin is particularly ugly. Something about the way she holds her arms and her posture seem very old school.
Miyahara: She has zero tango flavor. I wonder if her coaches picked this music to make her seem older, but it has the opposite effect. I'm not sure if I agree with the deductions, though. But she rotates so quickly and her jumps are so small, that it's hard to tell. I don't find her skating very interesting at this point. She seems like a total fighter, though, and I can see her moving up a lot in the free.
The men's short is over:

Really great debut for Jay Yostanto.
Han Yan into first, as everyone predicted.
Solid performance from Jason Brown, who did not include his 3A.
Dmitriev 20 points below Han Yan. And less than 1 point behind him, a skater I never heard of from Brazil

Wow, Julia. That skate would be threatening to most senior Ladies. Her score would put her in 3rd in the boys' competition.
ISU actually has been posting the videos in almost real time. I saw Jason Brown's video before the competition was even over!
Anyway, wow to Julia. Too bad about Courtney. I hope she bounces back tomorrow!
Mrs. P - I think it looks like a Rhythmic Gymnastics kind of choreography where it's flex leg catch, pose in an uncomfortable looking position, do something....
