Congratulations to medalists Gracie, Rija, Samantha. Gracie: nice way to make an international debut! Rija: Makes the JGPF. Samantha: Doesn't make it. If my math is correct, she is First Alternate. Can't wait to see the videos. Now for the protocols.....

ETA: Lordy, Gold didn't have a single -GOE. 3Z-3T and oops singled a loop....gave up a few points there. No edge calls, no UR's. Wow, just wow for a junior lady.

Risa presentation is even more beautiful when she grow up, better than many senior in my opinion. Her posture and flow on ice is amazing. She is like mini Arakawa + Chen.

Personally, I prefer her presentation more than gold (she totally deserve to win here, and USFSA should give her 2 grand prix) and other juniors this year.

After Vanessa Lam last year, I said the rule needed to change. If you only get to compete in 1 event, and you win, you should be in the final.
Last year was particularly shocking, because people who qualified placed 3rd and 4th or 3rd and 5th or something made it to the final.
This year, Gracie is certainly much better than Polina KOROBEYNIKOVA and deserve to take her place.

Thanks to the Estonians (who went from 7th to a silver medal Wow!). Aldridge and Eaton are the Dance JGPF! Yay! They got into a tiebreaker with the Russians, but their strong scores helped!

My goodness, I think you're right. Kosigina/Moroshkin are probably not smiling about now. Not only are Aldridge/Eaton in the Final, but I think due to tiebreaker on score, Bonacorsi/Mager are first alternates ahead of two other Russian teams.

I revise my post. Boy was there some major tiebreakers! We had FOUR teams with 24 points.

I really, really regret that the ISU decided to cut JGPF spots from 8 to 6 per discipline. I didn't have any problem with the lack of parallel between numbers of Jr and Sr GP final participants. I hope ISU reconsiders going back to 8 spots again after this year.

Or if they are going to do six, they have to limit the events to six.

So happy to see an American team among all the Russians and Ukrainians!

USFS is looking pretty stupid for their earlier decisions on certain JGP entrants. Gold obviously had not only high scores and was competition-ready, but had momentum building throughout the summer competitions, it should have been a no-brainer to schedule her earlier in the series to see how she did, to leave room for a second. Very bad USFS strategizing.
And Doug Williams of the Tech Committee making the decision was at Glacier Falls Classic and saw Gold's performance.

ITA. Looking at protocols the downgraded 2lz and silly mistakes like not holding her spins long enough resulting in a level 3 and level 2, not adding a 3rd combination, and then somehow getting a level 1 on her footwork, cost her some points. The result is right, but I don't agree with Gracie's PCS being higher than Risa's, especially where Gracie was not totally clean herself either. Risa's program is also a little frontloaded but for her I think that's probably a good call for her where she struggles with URs. Today her jumps looked good though, they aren't big like Gracie's but not distractingly tiny like Vanessa Lam's (who I still love!), and no URs issued except for the popped lutz. I hope she and her coach can go back and address these little issues because I really think she can medal at the JGPF this season. Julia will likely run away with gold but IMO, Risa is the next strongest skater out of the remaining qualifiers. Funny though, she reminds me a lot of Arakawa who was also often overlooked from an artistic standpoint even though I found her artistry and basics some of the best in the business. Oh well, Gracie was awesome so I'm happy for her and hope she makes the JW team and prevents a Russian sweep of the podium there. Risa also seemed nervous today which may have affected her PCS, as did Cesario and Shershak. I felt especially bad for Samantha who looked borderline terrified while skating. I really wanted her in the final this season but am happy Polina K now gets a chance as she is a gorgeous skater as well.
