Is Kanako ditching the lutz for the loop or is it a required element (sorry haven't kept up w/any rule changes in the summer).

Jump layout of Murakami's FS is like this.

    3Lz
    3F
    3Lo
    3Lo+?
    3F~2A
    3T
    3S+2Lo+2Lo

No 3-3 and two loops, it's quite mysterious. Not only the SP, Murakami has missed both loops (3Lo< and 1Lo) in the FS. Loop is the weakest jump for her and the ratio was 50% in last season. I guess their intention is to maximize the TES including the highest expected GOE when landed cleanly. If that's so, it's not a smart strategy. The lutz (e) is more solid. Murakami has never missed the lutz in last eight competitions. She can expect to gain a little more than the base value of a 3Lo. It might be a "challenge" for her but I'm doubtful if the judges would appreciate. Avoiding a 3-3 in the FS won't give good impression to the judges, especially when she's been chased by younger (Japanese) skaters with stronger technical abilities and ambitions..

Hongo skated almost flawlessly (6 triples FS incl. a lutz and a flip).
Oba attempted the 3S-3Lo in the SP and fell, but landed a 3F in the FS.

    Junior men
    1 Shoma Uno 59.38 114.35 173.73
A clean SP and a FS about the same with Poland JGP.
He is assigned to JGP Estonia along with Kihara. Kihara and Hino withdrew. They don't want to face Uno at Aichi competitions.

    Novice A ladies
    1 Yuka Nagai 78.08
    2 Mayako Matsuno 72.32
    3 Saki Tamiya 71.64

Shoji didn't compete even though it was held at her home rink. Kemanai is also out but she doesn't have a bye to sectionals. Senior and junior events are of low levels generally. Only novice girls have made some impressions. Yuka Nagai landed three triples (3Lz, 3T, 3S) and a flawed 3F.

Yuzuru Hanyu is scheduled to compete in this weekend

    Tohoku Hokkaido regionals

    Senior men
    1 Yuzuru Hanyu 88.06 150.77(75.57+75.20) 238.83
    4T(+2.0) 3A(+2.0) 3F 1Lz+2T 3A+3T< 3Lz< 3Lo+1T 3S

For his standards, this performance couldn't be called "fine". Anyway, the real "competition" is 3 weeks later. I'm looking forward to see the new age stars' battle between Hanyu and Gachinski.

Now he has no eged call on 3 flip, but start having problems with 3Lz. Is he changing jump technique?

Hope there will be some video.
