Is Kanako ditching the lutz for the loop or is it a required element (sorry haven't kept up w/any rule changes in the summer).

Jump layout of Murakami's FS is like this.

3Lz
3F
3Lo
3Lo+?
3F~2A
3T
3S+2Lo+2Lo

No 3-3 and two loops, it's quite mysterious. Not only the SP, Murakami has missed both loops (3Lo< and 1Lo) in the FS. Loop is the weakest jump for her and the ratio was 50% in last season. I guess their intention is to maximize the TES including the highest expected GOE when landed cleanly. If that's so, it's not a smart strategy. The lutz (e) is more solid. Murakami has never missed the lutz in last eight competitions. She can expect to gain a little more than the base value of a 3Lo. It might be a "challenge" for her but I'm doubtful if the judges would appreciate. Avoiding a 3-3 in the FS won't give good impression to the judges, especially when she's been chased by younger (Japanese) skaters with stronger technical abilities and ambitions..

Chubu regionals

Senior ladies
1 Kanako Murakami 57.92 107.54 165.46

4 Maiko Mitsuya 36.42 88.71 125.13
5 Mai Hirono 41.62 74.58 116.20
6 Ayane Nakamura 38.48 67.70 106.18
7 Ayumi Goto 34.90 63.68 98.58
Murakami landed a 3F+3T (+1.40!) in the SP but missed all (three) loops.

Junior ladies
1 Rika Hongo 45.84 96.65 142.49
2 Miyabi Oba 43.92 94.72 138.64
3 Ibuki Mori 45.94 89.99 135.93
4 Haruka Sakai 43.94 87.46 131.40
Hongo skated almost flawlessly (6 triples FS incl. a lutz and a flip).
Oba attempted the 3S-3Lo in the SP and fell, but landed a 3F in the FS.

Junior men
1 Shoma Uno 59.38 114.35 173.73
A clean SP and a FS about the same with Poland JGP.
He is assigned to JGP Estonia along with Kihara. Kihara and Hino withdrew. They don't want to face Uno at Aichi competitions.

1 Mei Ito 41.12 78.36 119.48
2 Satomi Akuzawa 43.02 68.75 111.77
3 Nana Matsushima 42.48 68.59 111.07
4 Roanna Sari Oshikawa 38.72 72.15 110.87
5 Mio Sato 44.86 62.26 107.12 (not Miu Sato)
WD Risa Shoji, Karen Kemanai

Novice A ladies
1 Yuka Nagai 78.08
2 Mayako Matsuno 72.32
3 Saki Tamiya 71.64

Shoji didn't compete even though it was held at her home rink. Kemanai is also out but she doesn't have a bye to sectionals. Senior and junior events are of low levels generally. Only novice girls have made some impressions. Yuka Nagai landed three triples (3Lz, 3T, 3S) and a flawed 3F.

Yuzuru Hanyu is scheduled to compete in this weekend

I bet Yamada is making her put in the triple loop since this was not a major competition. She probably wants Kanako to be more consistent and master the triple loop. Practice makes prefect.

BTW, I have been on the forum in so long and I'm so excited!!!!

Yuzuru Hanyu's SP score is 88.06 (50.46+37.6).
4T 3A 3Lz+3T all clean. A twitter report is that he landed a 4S+3T in the warmup. The two quad SP is definitely within the range of assumptions.

For his standards, this performance couldn't be called "fine". Anyway, the real "competition" is 3 weeks later. I'm looking forward to see the new age stars' battle between Hanyu and Gachinski.

Now he has no eged call on 3 flip, but start having problems with 3Lz. Is he changing jump technique?

Hope there will be some video.

Entries of Eastern/Western Sectionals are updated.

http://www.skatingjapan.jp/National/2011-2012/fs_j/west/index.htm

Eastern senior men
Daisuke Murakami
Kento Nakamura
Akio Sasaki

Eastern senior ladies
Haruka Imai
Yuki Nishino
Fumie Suguri
Shoko Ishikawa

Ishikawa had a horrible free skate at last week's Eastern Japan Inter-Collegiate Championships (no jump and only 8 points for the TES). If she repeats such a performance, the NHK spot would be given to Kokubun (her home town is Sapporo).

Eastern junior ladies
Risa Shoji
Haruna Suzuki

Roanna Oshikawa and Karen Kemanai are not listed.

Western senior men
Takahito Mura

Mura skated brilliantly at Western Japan I-C Championships (all clean including a 4T and 7 triples).

Western senior ladies
Shion Kokubun
Satsuki Muramoto
Ayaka Hosoda
Kana Muramoto
Rina Kondo
Ayumi Goto
Yuka Kono
Ayane Nakamura

Western junior men
Keiji Tanaka
Ryuju Hino
Sei Kawahara
Shoma Uno
Ryuichi Kihara
Yoji Tsuboi

Western junior ladies
Satoko Miyahara
Riona Kato
Miu Sato
Kako Tomotaki
Miyabi Oba
Yukiko Fujisawa
Saya Ueno
Rin Nitaya
Hinano Isobe
Ayana Yasuhara
Miyu Nakashio
Rika Hongo
Ibuki Mori

This must be a very tough competition. Only 14 (Oba and Tomotaki included) can advance to junior nationals. I suspect it would require at least 125 points.

Three ice dance teams are listed. Brina Oi (Curran Oi's younger sister) is one of them.

Edit to correct
Shoko Ishikawa was not listed, I have mistaken for Yuka Ishikawa. Shoko seems to have good political backings through her coach Nobuo Sato. At this point, the NHK spot could be considered undecided yet.

Apparently, the levels of Eastern Sectionals are lower in all disciplines. Suguri has lost triple jumps completely and failed to qualify. Perhaps, it would be better for her to avoid further embarrassment.
