Most of the program was Dracula and Vampire and the clear influence of vampire moves was obvious.

:)Yeah I know it wasn't all of Red Violin. I was sitting there trying to stay interested and then I perk up when I heard the first part of Red Violin playing and it just seemed like background music. I just said wow this is not so good imo.

Liked Jeremy's program and it's a beautiful piece but I get why people aren't really liking it. It's just one piece of beautiful music that doesn't really mean anything. Glad he won. Weird placements in the competition.

Wow Hanyu...what a beautiful quad and axel. So much potential and not enough stamina. He doesn't even seem to get up from the fall fast enough. Maybe he was shock to find himself on the ice.

Nan Song beautiful jumps...awesome tech. Need a better in-betweens/choreography and speed but I like him and his potential.

Gachinski was vastly overscored, especailly in the PCS department. Poor basic skating skills, slow, very little ice coverage, typical 6.0 choreography to save energy for big jumps. How the hell did he get a bronze medal at world championships?
He might be great and deserve the bronze, but to me, a non-skater, his skating is simply an eyesore.

Re Kevin......I really hope he gets his jumps going for him later this season because he really has improved on all the other skills. It's too bad he gets no love from the judges in that regard. I'm hoping that his PC's will begin to creep up when he skates a clean program with all the quads and hopefully makes it into the record books :). Last year he had a hip injury that kept him down, but I'm hoping this year he remains injury free and can make some headway. He seems to be a hard worker and a nice kid. Oh, and his hair doesn't bother me a bit......it's sort of like mine :D

Since Hanyu has such a serious issue of stamina, perhaps it'd be better if he didn't place so much focus on the hard jumps which take up so much of his energy so that he could finish the other elements with more ease.

Can somebody do something to Kevin Reynold's hair?

I'm glad for Nan Song, I hope his PCS will increase as he progresses.

.

He's still very young. He has to push himself in order to become world champion in the future.

He also looks scarily thin as well, even for a 16 year old. Taking out the Quad or one of the two Triple Axels is not an option for him I think because at his age and his relative lack of recognition, he needs big jumps in order to make a name of himself. To ask him to take out the harder jumps is to ask him to disarm himself. Instead, the program can be a little less ambitious without eliminating the big tricks that make people pay attention to him to begin with.

Can somebody do something to Kevin Reynold's hair?

The answer is no. I mean, it's not by lack of trying. On the issue of his hair, I think it's more likely to see Elvis Stojko doing ballet on ice than Kevin doing something about his hair. :sheesh: I am not sure it's his hair or his obstinacy, if it's the former, then it's the distraction that it creates but if it's the latter, then he will remain stagnant forever. In either case, his PCS score will never be respectable no matter how hard he tries. Sadly, I have given up on him. He is a talent and has the gifts to become a contender but he hasn't exactly made the right decisions to further his skating career. My hunch is that Skate Canada is ready to cultivate Rogozine into Canada #2, if not this year, certainly by 2013.

Hanyu already does a 4/4 layout and not a 3/5 but maybe he should try 5/3. Bonus points he is trying for he never really gets because of the stamina issue.

I think he should just skip the 2nd lutz and do another flip or loop. When he's tired he takes off leaning way to forward for the lutz. His 3A-3T is usually good for him but it just wasn't there today. I really think that his stamina has improved a bit from last season. Someone commented on him looking really slow during the slow section of his music but IMO he looked fine. Poor little boy looked so shocked to fall during competition :(

I think Yuzuru's LP is already designed with his lack of fitness in mind. The music slowed down right after the intitial big jumps and he skated a slow tempo with it the rest of the program but still couldn't handle the later elements. Canada's one term national champion Sebastien Britten too had asthmas and never achieved great success despite his brilliant artistry. Yuzuru's best role would be Japan's SP specialist for the Team event.

As for Canada's #2 Man, Skate Canada pretty much stated openly that the focus is on Rogozine. He is probably the designated sidekick or interim place holder for Nguyen if Patrick leaves early.

This is kind of OT but I just learned that China's Yan Han, Jin Boyang, and Zhang He will be performing in the Gala. They are all very exciting and impressive Juniors from China, possibly 2018 Olympics contenders or even Sochi in case of Yan Han. Try not to miss them if you want to see the next and very different generation of Men skaters from China.

Chinese skaters have all developed on technics first and artistics later. I remember when Shen/Zhao was first being noticed internationally, they were technical skaters too. Then they found big name choreographers abroad. From there, their programs have started to turn into artistic direction.

^^^You will be very surprised at Yan Han, et al. I seriously think Han will likely be more competitive than Yuzuru. He has great skating, big jumps, and mental toughness, a complete package.

I do agree with you about the general progress of current and past Chinese skaters. Song will likely be sent to Canada for choreography and packaging now that he's got himself some recognition.

Seems like some people forgot about what programs Hanyu showed us last season. And even when he made mistakes he still could easily recover. What happened this season? For that guys you have google to find out. Hanyu, who is a teen-boy afterall, went through the serious disaster together with his family this spring due to a well-known natural catastrophe in Japan. A huge deal even for an adult. Moreover, soon he became a face of Sendai and Tohoku with its "ganbaro nippon" pressure from mass media. I think his real current issue is not stamina. It's a psychological control.

Jeremy was good for me to take a nap.

Apparently after the earthquake Hanyu's rink closed and he still does not have a "home rink" to practice on because all the other rinks in Japan are full. Apparently he appeared over 60 ice shows this summer just to have practice ice...he's only 16!

He was on the rink when the earthquake struck and had to evacuate in his skates!:cry:

Are you blind? Must be.

I don't like Jeremy Abbott's program (yet another case of meaningless transitions and footwork thrown all throughout a program that have little or nothing to do with them music) and I can't believe how boring all the American men are this year. Ugh. That said, his overall performance quality is still quite good and I think he did enough here to deserve the Bronze medal. He's very lucky at how much the other guys messed up, though, because he did not deliver the jumps here either.
And you yourself must be blind, too?
