Elena Ilinykh & Nikita Katsalapov RUS
SP Fourth Place 58.17
FD Ave Maria by Vladimir Vavilov, performed by Thomas Spencer-Wortley

No surprise, same costume as last week at NHK
She covers her face, he buries his head in his chest
He skates to her
They skate off
rotational lift with him lifting his leg for about a turn..it still looks unintentional
step sequence in holds 90 miles apart
Skating apat into twizzles back and forth
Cute, & A cute way to keep you from detecting they aren't in synch
Rotational lift similar to first one with her head in his chest & foot in a hair cutter
One of those travel around the the neck lifts
Some 2 feet spinning by him at the start of the spin. Rest of it OK, but not sure what the rule is here.
Steps. was that a trip or intentional
This is a little better than last week
Kind of a messup on the exit from the final lift, or is that intentional
They hug
Russian flags in the audience

That is a very open program. I don't want to hear any complaints about S&Z open programs from I&K fans.
82.15 (not a seaon's best, needless to say)
141.32 into 1st

Huh. They actually did worse than last week. I thought this week's program was better than last's week. ???

Maybe everyone else already knows this, but I juts figured out that I/K's dance was about a man who lost his beloved. It makes some sense of the love-religion mix and I liked the program a lot better. But I'm just making it up.

just wondering Doris -- what do you mean by an "open program?"

Anna Capellini & Luca Lanotte ITA
SP Third Place 64.62
FD La Strada by Nino Rota
Same costume as SC
Twizzles slow and careful (and smart)
Steps very smooth, slow music, carving edges nicely
Lift where she goes round his neck and ends up with both feet on her own head
steps again
Girl on a stick lift. A little short-did they get the 2nd rev?
Pair spin, reverse spin, standard model and very slow to the end
He's in Shoot the duck, she's laid out straight to kiss him (it's a great lift)
Fast rotational lift
Miming another kiss and posing
Train noises, and to their end pose.
And they should get the bronze.
Italian flags, great applause.

Ahhh - my favorite FD of the season, next to D/W. Beautifully done.

Although I could do without the crotch lift.

C/L technically spot on, but to me that program was boring. Maybe because I really dislike la strada.

Nathalie Pechalat & Fabian Bourzat FRA
SP Second Place 66.52
FD "Mummy and Pharaon": "Passion" ; Composer : Peter Gabriel; "In The Garden" ; Composer : Narada World; "Le retour de Punt" ; Composer : Bernard Becker; "Alf Layla Wa Layla" ; Composer : Ahmad Sidqi

Same mummy with the diaper costume as SA
She's laid out as dead, on his foot
He pulls her up.
Off they skate
Handstand lift-not too straight up; I thought they were going to lose it, but he kept it OK
Deep edged steps with walk like an Egyptian hands by both of them
He's on one knee, she stands on his thigh
More Egyptian hands into the twizzles. Need more ice coverage, 3 sets, OK
She leans onto his back
Flips over his head to stand on his thighs He's in a back cantilever spread eagle
Steps. More Egyptian hands
into the pair spin. With the hands.
You could say that is the character of the piece, or that it's a touch too much
Steps to fast near eastern music
Lots of clapin
An up and then unwrap down lift back into her beginning position, a bit off
Should easily be in first.

FD 98.04 new SB
Total 164.56 into first, of course

I'm having a little trouble coming up with a narrative that accounts for a smiling mummy who looks like a WWI bombing victim. This program blows. Tell me there's no home field advantage.

Very awkward moment at the end - was there a slip?

I thought they blew the ending pose, but it was a transitional lift; no penalty.

Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir CAN
SP First Place 71.18
FD Funny Face musical score: Funny Face; Basal Metabolism; S'Wonderful

Tessa's in the red dress (looks great), but still has the schoolmarm bun
Scott has the strange thin red Boy Scout tie still. I presume Astaire wore one?

Tap dancing to start
Off they dance very smooth
A certain amount of mugging, required for musical comedy
Basal metabolism
lift. that looked awkward
twizzles. Very close together
more tap
Nice positions in the pair spin.
She falls back; he catches her,
S'wonderful
She has lovely arms
Flips into an upside down rotational lift, nice quick turns
Another lift, flip into a nice pose, rotate out.
To end.
Very, very nice.

105.75
-1 deduction (I'm guessing the awkward lift was too long)
176.93 into first.

The Pechalat/Bourzat story is that he prays to the gods for one last dance, she comes to life, they dance, then she goes back to being a mummy.

And an open program has a lot of hand to hand skating, or skating apart.

Tessa and Scott were a class above everyone else, but it is not my favourite FD of theirs.

PS Is it just me or was there relatively much two foot skating compared to their previous FDs?
