Plushy should forget about quads and try to improve in other areas.By the end of his carrer he can afford to do something really, really crazy, like skating only with triples, but to a nice program. I would love to see great footwork, beautiful choreography, everybody knows he can jump.
We'll see his upcoming Russian Nationals in which he will not put quad in his programs. How will he do against Gachinski and Menshov? Then we'll have better ideas.
I hope he improves other aspects of his skating besides the jumps. I know I use to enjoy his overall skating before he started doing all this flailing. He certainly has it. Otherwise I hope his score truly reflect what he puts out on the ice. No high scores for transitions that aren't really there.
True. But 1992 Winter Olympics and 1994 Winter Olympics were only two years apart. That was a golden opportunity for all winter athletes. If Plushenko does go to Sochi, he'll be the first male skater who has been competing at this high level for the longest time.

I wonder what triple jump he will do out of steps. The Lutz worked well. 3F+3T might get an "e" but maybe not at Russian nationals. All jumps done well likely to get +2 or 3 GOE and he rarely went below level 3 spin or steps and if done well all +2 or 3 GOE and his PCS would be good like 9's. Gachinski would get like 8's and maybe Menshov 7's or 8's. If they landed quad combos both Gachinski and Menshov would get a bonus and maybe they could beat him in the tech score but maybe GOE on TES could still make Plushenko the winner there.

Yes - don't forget van der Perren, who became the oldest GP medalist under COP (singles), and I'm pretty sure ever of the seven GP events (six current + Bofrost)
Behold my mad Wikipedia skills: Elvis Stojko was older by a few months when he medalled at 2001 SC... and Todd Eldredge was 30. Eldredge also won a medal at that season's Lalique. Brian Boitano had just turned 30 when he won a silver at the 1993 Skate America.
Julia Sebestyen may have been the oldest ladies medalist in a GP: she was 28 when she won the bronze at 2009 SA.
ETA: Tatiana Malinina was also a 28 yeal old GP medalist - a winner, in fact!

Maria Butyrskaya won two GP events in fall 2001 at age 29.

So no Vanessa Mae, no problema, I'm just glad via Evgeni I found this amazing violinist! Seriously, she's in another realm all her own, to revolutionize the music industry by merging her electric violin with classical and come out with this amazing sound is truly unbelieveable. This past week has been pure bliss listening to her music (she's now on my MP3 permanently). And now I know a little bit of why Zhenya likes Edvin Marton so much ~ the violin.
Lol, and now I'm actually looking forward to what Mr. Marton has to offer for the FS. After all, he did have a hand in Evgeni's signature program ~ Tribute To Nijinsky. So I will give him the benefit of the doubt. My respect for violinists via Vanessa Mae has reached another level.
That said, now I'm even more curious to see Zhenya's SP. Three more weeks to go, and counting... :angel:
