Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Q: You’re now referred to as the ace of team Japan in the men’s event. As the wild card of the team, what are your future plans?
A: I’m still trying to process that I’m now referred to as the ace of the team. It seems so surreal. I’m not too attached with the title, and I’m not really interested, either. In other words, it’s similar to how Takahashi was the ace before when I was just a normal Japanese representative. It doesn’t really matter on whether or not I have the title of “ace” or not. In this time, it’s not surprising if someone else wins even while I have this so-called title. In all honesty, Machida skated an exceptionally beautiful program, and I have to commend him for that. Therefore, it doesn’t matter who has the title of “ace”. I’m the happiest when everybody can all work hard together. I think that with this kind of thinking, Japan’s men’s representatives will be able to succeed in the future as well.

However, it was probably due to my desperateness that I was able to leave everything behind and just let my emotions consume me. It feels as if it’s been a while since I was able to complete a performance to this degree.

I think the last time we saw this kind of intensity from him was in 2012. I'm glad he was able to find that kind of passion again

It goes all the way back to Takeshi Honda, they were always calling him the ace in competitions, news reports and everything else. I guess that's just the way the media works, they always feel the need to attribute titles to people.

Well, as long as he's well aware of losing in future competitions, then alright, do what you want to do with your head held high. Like many have said, I just hope he doesn't have any regrets in the end. It's just now and then I can't help but to be a worrywart when he's pushing himself. And it's happening right after the olympic season and the insanely amount of ice shows he's in :no: Don't overwork yourself, dear. You still got many seasons ahead of you before 2018 Pyeongchang.

It might be unnessary information but to be honest, the oricon ranking is not trusted very much by japanese these days.
(because many of them still believe that some of the results were purchased like always)

But as for Yuzuru’s DVD as ranked no.1, which is worthy of trust I believe undoubtedly.
