yeah, when was last time katia and ilia did soi together? 1999-2000? They fell in love got pregnant, then married and now we wait to see if Liza Kulik will have skater genes. I was disappointed Daria didn't. Wonder if Daria is in college yet and where. Her huge Sergei grin was so cute!
It was Sergei's wish that Daria had other interests like Karate... she wasn't funnelled into skating, she was given more opportunities. She skated for quite a while before persuing other interests. I think that would make her father far happier than if she'd taken to skating out of some sort of idea that she was bred for it. *shrugs*Originally Posted by skateluvr

How great that Katia and Ilia are skating together. I remember that incredible duet they skated in 2000 or so. I took one look at that and, knowing nothing of their lives, knew that they were a couple. Talk about two skating as one.
I'm glad Daria has done other things instead of automatically going into skating. It shows good things about all three of her parents. Haven't seen Liza on the ice since that Kristi "family and friends" TV show a few years ago. I wonder which parent she resembles now, if either of them.
Just for information sake, Katia and Ilia also did 2005 Stars on Ice together. I think there were other years too - I'll have to check.
Liza looks, as she always has, remarkably like her Dad with a few subtle touches of her Mom. This photo is a little over a year old. She is competiting at the pre-juvenile level now - that's appropriate to her age - and doing well. Ilia has often said that she will determine if she has the desire to continue to skate as she grows into her teens (she's 10 now) and that the real commitment challenges come in adolescence so nothing is a 'given' at this point. So far she is an eager competitor and a good skater according to Dad who is her coach.

So Toni, what do you hear about Liza...?yes, sure Daria was skating with all her doubles, then quit for other things. I think I saw katia on Tv last year saying Daria was going to college. I wonder where? I know she loves Russia and wonder if maybe she is studying there or has stayed close to her parents in CA. She was given every opportunity I am sure, very lucky lady. So attractive, like her father especially.
I wonder if SOI audiences will see Katia and Ilia skate together. I hope they do as SOI may not go on after this year. Just guessing-no inside info.

Um, I don't? Bradenburg has more info than I ever would. My skating knowledge - for the most part - comes from published articles, and I don't follow skating "lower" than Novice... and even then it's sketchy.

HMMMM when does something become "public knowledge." This is confusing to me frankly. Do you mean that people who are in skating and maybe know the skaters cannot talk about their general lives. Must it be published offnet in some austere or dubious publication? This is quite vague area to me.
Once again the forum guidelines are a great resource. If it isn't published by a reliable source then no it can't be given up. I can come on and say that I'm besties with Kurt Browning's neice and then go on to tell intimate details, even if it's not true, so just by saying "hey I know them" isn't typically good enough. Golden Skate is more than just a forum, it's a news source, and not a tabloid one at that.
I see more clearly...but I would say "tabloid" has no meaning anymore and for a long time. When for example ABC,CBS, and NBC consistently covered in local and national news stories about Lindsay Lohan's drug/court dramas...or Charlie Sheen's antics...there is no such distinction anymore between "Serious Journalism" and Star magazine for example.
So that is an important distinction perhaps between how GS sees itself and FSU? I don't think FSU bills itself as a "news source?" Or does it? It seems a forum but by and large the threads are the same though one forum is larger in numbers.
I'm comfortable saying Boston, not so comfortable getting more specific than that.
