Yes, VB, I agree that it's all about quelling his anxiety so he can skate well.
I was just reading the Grand Prix Announcements for SC and TEB and it says he won $18,000 in prize money for winning first place (Section 13). I didn't know that participation in the exhibition was mandatory, or else $3,000 would be deducted from the prize money. Also, each time he won a gold medal, he was subjected to an anti-doping test right after the final free skate (Section 15). Everything is the same if he wins TEB.
ISU rules are strict! Right now Patrick is ranked 20th with 1940 points.
