How’s Machida doing?
What does this mean?

Yuzuru wins the free with 167 but third overall. Landed everything except his last 3S which he singled.

4T, second 3A and the last jump, the 3F

Those are major errors indeed. Assuming -3 GOE on those jumps, the impact is roughly as follows:

Part 1) Negative GOE = -3 + -3 + -2.1 = -8.1

Part 2) Mandatory Deductions = -3

Part 3) Opportunity cost on GOE (assuming an average of +2 GOE) = 2 + 2+ 1.4 = 5.4

Total Impact on TES = -8.1 - 3 - 5.4 = -16.5 > his lead over Kozuka from the SP

Unless Kozuka also had errors of his own, it does seem somewhat shocking to justify such win, even just doing a quick math like this

Yeah, no doubt chanadian judges took notes and he will get over 100 in SP at CN, no matter how many times he zambonis the ice.

Yeah, the magical power of Patrick Chan, which causes him to win even when he falls down three times, oh the horror!
Oh wait...
Not that I don't think Takahashi deserves it; that short program yesterday was something else. But still.

It's upsetting that Daisuke fell 3 times, but I'm so proud of Yuzuru for skating clean, scoring the highest in the FS and making the World team!!! YAY!

I am so tired of reading everywhere about Chan! This is Japanese nationals, not Canadian nationals. Let's see how he does in his own nationals and than we can start a different thread comparing scores, overs-cores, PCS and everyting. But not now and not here

Skating clean? You mean the mistake on the 3S doesn't count?

As for making the World team, that's premature. Only the Japanese Champion is guaranteed a spot. With Oda's particular situation and absence, I am not sure the JSF is ready to announce the entire World team just yet. If Oda has a chance of coming back on time for 4CC and Worlds, it wouldn't surprise that both Hanyu and Oda may have to a skate off at the 4CC.

Takahashi:

4T -fall
3A
3S
3A -fall
3F+2T
3Lo
3Lz+3T
3F-fall

In other words, not only Takahashi fell 3 times, he additionally received a +SEQ penalty for not doing the second 3A in combination, that's almost another 2 points there.
