The women's (girls) free skating competition is scheduled to start at 23:30? Seriously? These kids should all be in bed by that time.

Just got back from the Opening Ceremonies. It was pretty packed and sold out! Ceremonies were nice, nothing special but appropriate for the occasion.

It was a very special moment for the city of Innsbruck though: After 1964 and 1976, Innsbruck is the first city in history to host the Olympic family for a third time. The 1964 and 1976 cauldrons were lit by the Olympic downhill champions Egon Zimmermann and Franz Klammer. The Olympic flag was carried into the stadium by a several former Olympic champions from Austria, including ski jumpers Toni Innauer and Karl Schnabl. Can't remember who lit the third couldron.

Yuna was one of the athletes carrying the Olympic torch. They were climbing up the stairs towards us when she stopped 10m away from me to hand the torch over to someone else. She then stood there without anyone taking notice of her (hey, Austria is a skiing country, no one knows anything about figure skating here ) Everyone was so focused on the torch and the 3rd cauldron to be lit and I thought, well, this is my chance to just walk up to her and say hi! So I did! And I took a photo with her and thanked her in Korean

Here are photos from the opening: http://news.daylife.com/search/photos/2/grid?__site=daylife&q=innsbruck

Some more news concerning YOG: :)

Ice skating Princess Alexandra of Hanover's maternal uncle, Prince Albert of Monaco, is attending the event as well (his grandfather Jack Kelly was a 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist in Rowing back at the turn of the last century):

Also, it was announced yesterday that Prince Albert is the new Patron of the World Olympians Association:

This is all good for figure skating because his 12 yr. old niece, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, has been competing for the last 2 yrs. in Europe.

Novice level I think, and under the name Alexandra de Hanovre, Monaco.

More info. about her, copied & pasted from a previous thread I started in another part of the forum:

Lol, I'm still trying to find out what figure skating competitions Princess Alexandra of Hanover will be competing in this year, therefore I've turned into a sleuth.

Thus far, I've only found the following:

As well, she may compete in 1 of 3 competitions to be held in February:

Journee Happy Glisse, 2/1/12: http://www.sportsdeglaceliguepaca.fr/nouveau_site/departemental/Journee Happy Glisse.pdf

Coupe de Toulon-La Garde, 2/4/12-2/5/12: http://www.sportsdeglaceliguepaca.fr/nouveau_site/artistique/competitions.html

Note: Princess Alexandra competed here last year (so I'm hoping she does so again this year as well!) :)

Thank you!!!! And you were lucky to find Yuna without 1000 fans around her! :D

 It was so random! I only received the ticket for the Opening 30min before it started. It was sold out and I didn't manage to grab one and was already sitting on my couch waiting to watch it on TV when my dad called saying that he had just met a friend who still had a spare ticket and if I wanted it. So I was like, okay, I am off and left the house straight away! And then it was even more random that within 20.000 people in the audience, Yuna climbed up the stairs towards where we were standing. I was like, wait, this is just 10m away, right in the middle of all the spectators, no barriers around. She just stood there watching the ceremony and I just walked up to her.

I really didn't expect to see the ceremonies live, let alone meet Yuna there. But it just all happened and I was like huh :laugh:
