Update on SD Spoke to Bob Horen today from the ISU Tech Committee. He said Yankee Polka will also include March rhythm and/or Waltz. And good news for pre Olympic year - Juniors will do Quickstep but Seniors will do FINNSTEP, so Doris and many others including myself will be very happy.

I'm a little confused. Is the compulsory step the Yankee Polka or the Finnstep?

ETA: Or is it Yankee Polka in the 2012/2013 season (pre-Olympic year) and Finnstep in the 2013/2014 (Olympic year)

Sorry for confusion - Yankee Polka is 2012-13 season and Finnstep for 2012-14 season for Seniors.

What rhythms are likely to go with the Finnstep?

Meryl Davis said the Yankee Polka was her favorite Pattern Dance. Charlie said it was a lot of fun. The Shibs said it was yet another dance they hadn't ever competed - only watched a video, but it looked like fun and a more complex dance.

On the other hand, Scott Moir pretty clearly hates it, and Charlie White expects the music will get annoying.

Oh well, I guess Davis/White will get to win 3 World titles en route to their Olympic victory.

Not necessarily, of course. And this set of choices sets up the Tango Romantica for the Olympics again (not a strength of D&W's).

However, they certainly know a lot more about tango than they did in 2010. And even if you don't like them, you've got to give them props for looking unflinchingly at their weaknesses and trying to improve stuff each year.

How so? The Yankee Polka next season, the Finnstep in the Olympic season. Where does the Tango Romantica fit in?

    2010/2011 Season: Golden Waltz
    2011/2012 Season: Rhumba
    2012/2013 Season: Yankee Polka
    2013/2014 Season (Olympics): Finnstep
2014/2015 Season: Get rid of the SD because it was an experiment that failed) or Tango Romantica.

... is this what you mean?

I was just half asleep and counting wrong, that's all. But the Finnstep for Olympics is way too good to be true. I love watching the Finnstep. It makes me remember watching Rahkamo & Kokko, one of my very favorite ever teams skate the original Finnstep to Borsalino
