So Evgeni Plushenko (261.23) has the highest total for ISU competitions this season so far. That guy is truly a legend. Being a "grandpa" and still capable of setting a record.

You need to be comparing INTERNATIONAL scores only. Everyone acknowledges that National scores are often so inflated that they bear no relation to ISU scores. So all the Nationals scores should be taken off the lists. But of course you wouldn't want to do that because then PLUSHENKO would be on top.

It looks like Russia wins the prize for best judging at Nationals.

Here are the differences between the scores at Nationals and the highest intentional score.

Abbott 44.50
Chan 41.84
Rippon 22.90
Kozuka 15.95
Takahashi 5.48
Hanyu 0.25
Gachinski -1.52
Plushenko -2,48

You really can't make that conclusion. E.g. Patrick and Jeremy did their best of the season at their Nationals which were their latest. Takahashi bombed his Nationals LP whereas Plushenko had his Nationals as the first competition and greatly improved at his 2nd, the Euro. Very different circumstances and performances.

eta. The Nationals scores should be separate from the international. However, the comparisons will be more meaningful after the 4CC. (Particularly interesting as Chan and Kozuka will compete directly for the first time since last Worlds.) Then the World Championships will be the final judgement.

You need to be comparing INTERNATIONAL scores only. Everyone acknowledges that National scores are often so inflated that they bear no relation to ISU scores. So all the Nationals scores should be taken off the lists. But of course you wouldn't want to do that because then PLUSHENKO would be on top.

I have no problem Plushenko on top. My intention is not showing who is scoring the highest so far. I'm just including all the events that I think are important and list the skaters that I think may/will have an impact at World. Whether Nationals are inflated or not, this is just a reference for the scores.

When I have time, I will make another list excluding the Nationals.

So Evgeni Plushenko (261.23) has the highest total for ISU competitions this season so far. That guy is truly a legend. Being a "grandpa" and still capable of setting a record.

legend with the capital " L "

 true, but I didn't pay attention the national scores anyways

However, the comparisons will be more meaningful after the 4CC. (Particularly interesting as Chan and Kozuka will compete directly for the first time since last Worlds.)

If I'm not badly mistaken, Kozuka won't go to 4CC this year - it's Takahashi, Mura and Machida.
I was a little disappointed, I think Takahashi could have needed a break anyway, since he already did the GPF. So that comparison will have to wait till worlds.

And thanks for making this, jettasian. I'd be interessted in international scores only too, but anyway thanks for your work
(And now I'd want something like this for the women too, it's so comfortable xD... they're the harder bunch to predict, at least for me  )

Thank you very much for the hard work and time, jettasian! Even though you put nationals and internationals together, you've labeled each clearly. So it's a good reference!

Thanks from me too - love looking at these kind of lists. Of course you're never really comparing apples to apples - unless looking at scores where both skaters were at the same comp. I think Nat'l scores should be here - we're all smart enough to know they are often inflated compared to int'l scores

Just saving you some work. I was the chief compiler of numbers here last season so it's become a hobby. But happy when others bring different lists and perspectives and save me work too. :)

eta: On second look at the thread title and on second thought, I removed these lists for another thread. The thunder is all yours. ;)

It looks like Russia wins the prize for best judging at Nationals.

Here are the differences between the scores at Nationals and the highest intentional score.

Abbott 44.50
Chan 41.84
Rippon 22.90
Kozuka 15.95
Takahashi 5.48
Hanyu 0.25
Gachinski -1.52
Plushenko -2,48

LOL @ Abbott and Chan's national scores.

I want to be bold to question Mathman's math here. :p (I already challenged his logic on this conclusion. :))

Chan's highest Nationals Score is 302.14 and his best international score is 280.98. By my elementary school math the difference is (302.14-280.98 =)21.16, not 44.50.

Abbott: 273.58 - 238.82 = 34.76

What did I do wrong?

eta. OK, I see now. Mathman used the numbers from jettasian's list which includes only this partial season's numbers. I used PB numbers, especially since Chan achieved his so recently.

I just updated the tally, separated Nationals and ISU competitions. And you are all welcome, my pleasure :)
