I got my legs under me after SLC, got to recharge a bit ... [Daisuke Takahashi’s hip hop swan lake] was one of my favorite programs of all time, I tried to channel that ... to express the music and follow that model

On Daisuke Takahashi’s comeback: There’s a small opportunity that I might get to compete with him but I would be so so so excited for it. I’m not going to think that far.

It's a crime for JSF not to send him to an international competition. They should send him at least to a CS depending on the result of Western Sectionals.

Some other articles in Japanese

-Asahi shimbun, Utako sensei talks about Dai and his performances at Kinki Rgnls: https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20181009-00000050-asahi-spo

本当に、ちょっと、私の想像以上にボロボロでしたね。
....
短い間にワッとやっているので、色々なハプニングがあった。
SPとフリーを2日続けてそろえるまでの練習には至っていない。

"His performances this time were, well..., really..., much worse than we'd have anticipated/estimated, I'd say."
"We're working on lots of things at the same time, in such a short period of time all together, thus a number of unexpected things happened on the way. He can't resume on-ice trainings enough to skate a clean SP then a clean Free for two consecutive days yet."

In another Asahi article, Dai admitted that not only adductor muscle injury, but other minor injuries occurring and bothering him on daily basis. :(

-The Page, Kensuke Nakaniwa, aJapanese coach/Tech Specialist, also talks about his comeback, programs and performances at Kinki https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20181009-00010002-wordleafs-spo

"What surprised me the most was no quads planned but he indeed challenged to skate a very difficult free program at a top-level (despite his comeback after 4 years). His free is choreographed extremely complicated, actually, and made me impressed 'wow, he's goona jump a triple like that (entrance)?!'. Jumps are not mere technical elements at all, but totally merged/melted into the program."

I agree with Kensuke. I, too, was surprised to see how packed his free was tbh. Dai says he wants to practice quads and will add them into programs. However, a selfish side of me wishes to see he skates quadless but a clean free with two 3A for once. Must be a out-of-this-world skate, no doubt.

For those who are interested in Benoit Richaud's perspective, TSL did an interview with him where he spoke about Dai, step sequence, music, details on jump progress (before injury) and Dai's current physical condition and his goal

44:28 - 46:40; 55:40 - 1:03:35

I have new found respect and admiration for Benoit's approach to choreographing for the skaters. So glad he reached out to Daisuke!
Good luck next week at the Western Sectionals, Dai! Looking forward to seeing the updated step sequence, where Benoit said there is a dramatic improvement.

Thank you everybody, who helps keeping Dai's FF alive and for providing links and translations! It's immensely appreciated!

Such an extensive and interesting interview! I'm looking forward to the reworked choreo for PGG though I didn't think it had too many weaknesses before. Besides improving the step and choreo-sequence they were probably looking to make it easier for Dai to get through the jumping passes with his current physical condition in mind. (To think that he was getting there with the quads before his recent injury...what a bummer :( ) As deedee (and Kensuke) said, it was quite an ambitious layout with a couple of complex transitions. I'm particularly curious where they moved the solo 3F. I loved the former placement with the jump itself serving as a connecting element between the chsq and the final spin. Very demanding indeed and probably too energy-consuming given Dai's current state.

It's a testament to his commitment and his extraordinary gift as a performer that he was able to skate both programs so beautifully at Kinki under those circumstances. Like in the past, whenever he couldn't rely on his tech anymore, he didn't let the performance go and still managed to make it a worthwhile experience for the audience. However I hope he knows that his fans would never expect him to skate while in pain or to push for technical content that could potentially aggravate his injuries. Speaking for myself all I wish for him is to be happy and content and to live by his newfound resolution. ("I'd like to skate for me, rather than for someone else.") I hope that he allows his body to heal and that he'll trust his experience and his instincts to do what's in his own best interest.

Sending him massive positive vibes for Western Sectionals! ❤

Beautifully worded sentiment that is surely shared by all of Daisuke's fans! Thanks for that.

There's a month and a half between the Sectionals and Nationals. If he/his team thinks Dai still needs more of competition experience, participating in a B comp would be a good idea.

If it's still Dai's intention to skate competitively for one season only, I do wish, strongly wish JSF will invite him to the Gala at the Worlds in Saitama next March as one of the local skaters, at least. And Mao, too.
