One hour program to promote Hyoen 2019: Like the Moonlight was aired today, but it was limited to the Kanto/Tokyo area. But thanks to Uni, you can watch on YouTube. :)

https://youtu.be/yb2Wq8hzSgc

Dai visited to Kyoto to experience the world of the Tale of Genji.

0:00 - Byodo-in, an old Buddhist temple that symbolizes Heian Period (794-1185), in which the novel was written.

9:04 - Amon Miyamoto's work performed in the US and France

16:51 - He visited Nonomiya Shirine, a Shinto shrine described in the novel.

18:45 - The Tale of Genji Museum to see the life style of the aristocrats in Heian Period

22:54 - Rokusei, a restraint that serves the Heian Period cuisine recreated for modern age

25:33 - He visited a Gagaku(ancient Japanese classical court music) group and learned to dance to their music.
The piece he danced to is titled "Seigaiha (blue see waves)", and Genji and his best friend Tou-no-Chujo dance in the novel.

Although Like the Moonlight is based on the Tale of Genji, some characters were changed from the novel and some original characters were added, and the story is Miyamoto's Original.

Thanks a lot for the link, mikeko-san. :thank: I'm so so fascinated watching the sencond half in particular! Dai's costume, Shizuka's, Stephane's, Nobu's... so beautiful!!! The music sounds very promisng, too. After these shows are over, he should skate to it in other ice shows/galas! I don't mind at all if Dai decides to skate to one/some pieces from Hyo-en's as a competitive program some day.
In this video after 38:00 min., Daisuke practicing some movements on ice to create Genji's character looks unbelievably young. I mean, with his newly-cut very short hair, he is like a teen-age boy again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW_...=5xnFr0QVSSw&list=PLE35CBAA2D4A1C030&index=13 :eeking::biggrin:

A few translated bits of yesterday's charity talk event and auction, which Dai attended together with Keiji, from twitter (thank you, kokomo!):

Dai's training shirt and skating boots were auctioned off for JPY 460k each. The total amount raised at the event was JPY 2,373,000 appx USD 22k. The money will be benefitting those affected by the flooding and landslides that hit the Okayama area last year.

DaisukeTakahashi is very honored to receive the award. He is not sure if he is good enough for the award. He feels he has not done enough for his hometown and he aims to learn and experience more so he can give back to the community.

I can imagine he might feel more pressure to compete internationally now after getting selected as a recipient of special reinforcement funding. But it's great news that he intends to give it a shot!

  • Pictures on Emi Hirai's instagram. (Click through to the end, there are three pictures with Daisuke. The last one was taken at the Kurashiki skating rink not too long ago judging by Dai's hair. He looks great and healthy, definitely not "overweight" as he has been implying during the charity talk event ;)):

  • Romain Ponsart said Dai is one of his most favourite skaters ever. (He said so before - it's nice to hear he still thinks so.) He also mentions liking Sho's and Hanyu's skating:

From seeing Romain live at NRW Trophy a couple of years back I can say that he is quite a lovely skater himself! He was my favourite at the competition. :)

Thanks a lot for the info on Dai-chan, Mikeko-san and synesthesia! :thank:

From Jeffery Buttle's Instagram, Dai in the Kansai University's rink.

I wonder he's grown his hair for Hyoen.

Jeff, Steph and Dai are forever my heroes. :luv17: I see Shu Nakamura in the photo. He's taken back his retirement and would try one more year, I guess?

Thank you, synes! :thank: Looking at these three together makes me feel time has never passed a bit, they look/stay exactly the same as, say, in 2006!
Very nice to see Sean Rabbitt dropping his comment in that IG. :agree:

I always used to say Dai looks a little more mature than his actual age (in a good way, i should add, before anyone comes after me!!! :p), but in these last two pics he really passes for mid to late twenties. Hopefully his bright smile comes back to him soon. (Then maybe that's just his "let's get down to business" face in the shot with Chai-san as we know hair maintenance is a very serious affair for him. ;))

As for Shizuka, she's exactly my age and I'm jealous of her perpetually slim figure and impeccable looks. She doesn't seem to have aged a day over the last 8 years or so and she's had two kids in the meantime! Just how does she do it?

(I swear the legendary fountain of youth must be located somewhere in Japan!)

Agreed, Mama Shizuka rocks!

Re the secret fountain of youth: You should come to Japan someday and check it out yourself. :):) I think Asian people in general look younger than their actual ages, thanks to rather smallness in physics, black hair, yellowish skin, most of all high humidity. Humidity is unpleasant but good for skin (you will be surprised how hot and sticky in the summer here...). I remember when I flew to New York with my colleagues many years ago, had to wait an hour within the airport to catch a connecting flight, we decided to go to the airport bar for beer. A gorgeous lady who took our order hesitantly asked me, only me ;) 'Sorry to bother you but it's our regulation. May I see your ID, please.' 'Ok, here it is.' She was kind of shocked to find out I was actually same age as she at 28yo. I wore a simple T-shirt, jeans with no make-up thus I probably looked like a high school girl to her. ;)

I would say she looks better than when she was eligible actually.

Thanks for sharing that amusing episode, deedee. Something similar happened to me too once, buying wine at the supermarket when I had just turned 30. The checkout clerk, who asked for my ID looked like he was barely of age himself. I chuckled while I complied. Upon seeing my birth date his cheeks turned pink and he apologized. I told him "No need to apologize. I took that as a compliment!"

It never happened again since, so I suppose an extended rejuvenating treatment in Japan's humid climate is in order.

I've been wanting to visit for a long time anyway (and was seriously considering to finally do it to see Hyoen, but decided against it in the end, even though I already bought a ticket for the show. Is anyone interested btw? It's an arena seat for the evening performance on the 26th.)

I am anxiously awaiting Hyoen 2019.

Thanks synesthesia for keeping us all updated with Dai goodies, it is a treasure trove.

I have been so caught up with all the Shoma news that I have neglected my other favorite.
I think Dai will forgive me for my transgressions. :p
