(Not sure if you're saying that my paraphrasing and yours have different meanings - or at least have different nuances? "Up to 10%" vs. "no more than ten percent" seem equivalent to me??)
    Same meaning.

But then again, I think maybe there is a subtle difference in nuance. To me, the ISU's wording "a maximum of ten per cent" is sort of leaning in the direction, "Obviously the national federation will steal as much as they can, but we are here to tell you that you can't take more than ten percent."

Whereas if you say "up to ten percent" that sort of puts the default floor at zero. And then you are allowed to dip into the pot, but you have to stop dipping when you get to ten per cent. Something like that.

    Oh well. Never mind.

Thx for putting on your Wordsman hat, Mathman . I always enjoy discussions about language, and your comments on the subtle nuances will make me think twice the next time I am paraphrasing something.

Can't help wondering: Are the USFSA PR-types prone to mistakes??
They have issued another press release today re WTT, and it repeats the same inaccurate information from their previous WTT release as to how overall team results will be determined.
USFSA: "The scores of each team's skaters in the short programs/dance and free skates/dance will be added together and the highest point total will win." NOT!!

^ They may be using the word "scores" informally to mean the points earned for placements, rather than CoP scores.

But yes, one thing about the USFSA is that it is largely a volunteer amateur organization. They do make a lot of mistakes, as amateur volunteers often do.

The above link seems not working..will add another link:

I encourage Japanese skating fans who live nearby to decide to come to the competition in the last minutes!

We do not often get to see such many top skaters of the world in their 'near-top competitive shape'.
Besides, we do not see top skaters going head to head during Grand Prix circuit except the Final due to their seeded status; for instance, Patrick and/or Carolina seldom appears NHK Trophy, just because Dai/Taka/Nobu and/or Mao/Miki/Akiko normally gets a spot as the top seeded skater.

Thanks for shedding light as always, Mathman. In hindsight, I regret sounding overly critical re USFSA, as I admire and support volunteerism of all kinds. In future, I will be mindful that they deserve some slack.

And thx for nailing down the official answer that WTT does permit one coach per skater. I don't want to stray too far off topic in the Chan/Krall thread, where the question had arisen, so will add another example here.
Skate Canada has tweeted a photo of Amelie Lacoste with Nathalie (her coach, I believe?). Caption: "#Wtt12 - practice has begun! Amelie and Nathalie try out special team kiss n cry" http://twitter.com/#!/SkateCanada/st...03516243980290

More updates on skaters via TV Asahi's twitter:

    -Cathy & Chris Reed
First skaters of the day on the ice at practice, at such an early morning!
    Worring about Chris' foot injury...
    Skated to their SD.
Good on twizzle section!, on which he stumbled at Nice Worlds.

    -Nathalie & Fabian
Actually they ARE the first ones to show up at the rink (not on the ice)!
Nathalie smiling and chatting with Luca Lanotte of Italy.
Fabian yayed and clapped at the Reeds when their name was called, he apprears in high spirits!

    -Daisuke
His first appearance at this event.
Landed a quad, looked very pleased with that! Has a good feeling with it, he says.
Surprised to find out how gorgeous the Kiss & cry and each teams' booths are.
Imagining himself at the Kiss & cry, feels so embaressed, he said!

    -Carolina
Particularly interested in the team's cheering booth and looked amused!
She even tried sitting on it already, to check how comfortable it is.

    -Narumi & Mervin
Finished their practice. Smiling and looking in high spirits, too.

    --------------------------------
Gald to know skaters enjoying this event.
We thank all the skaters who have come to this event, all the way to Tokyo right after the nerve-recking and dead-tiring Worlds!

Ow! I wonder how many skaters are feeling less than 100%; it's got to be rough doing another competition right after Worlds! Kudos to all skaters!

Nobody likes Yoyogi. Yoyogi sucks. Also, tomorrow is gonna be colder. We will be there for 5 hours, so warmer clothes is a necessity.
