No matter what happens now, China and the USA have three spots at next year's WJs. Japan, Canada, Russia and Kazakhstan have two.

Brown just earned bronze with the highest PCS of the night. The judges really like him - once he gets the 3A, he'll be world beater material.

and Brown takes bronze ! :)
looks like a solid performance

if he gets his 3A and Quad
he will surpass Han an and Farris already
Farris actually is artistic but I agree he lacks personality and appeal compared to Brown

I see a complete package from Yan, solid quality on all aspects - technical, performance, and that cool champion vibe. Farris is balanced technically and artistically too but needs more personality. Brown is too much upper body and arm movements for me and needs technical improvement to compete with top Men in his age group including Yan, Farris, and Hanyu.

Thank you for this analysis. It creates a clear picture. :)

Joshua Farris and Han Yan got the exact same PCS (71.20)! Yan matches his previous SB ranking (13th) but Farris moves into 15th (behind Rippon, ahead of Miner). Should Abbott and Rippon not earn those three spots at senior worlds, next year's US Nationals is gonna be a bloodbath

I think you got that mixed up. Miner's SB is 223 from 4CC, but Farris is now ahead of Rippon on the SB list. And wow Jason just scored 144 with no 3a  and into 3rd! D10 off the podium. Huge scores for the top 3. Can't wait to see Yan, Farris, and Brown on the GP next season! Way to lay it down, guys.

Nah, I was just looking at the long program scores on the SB list. But yes, these scores are huge. Enough to give gmyers panic, anyway.

Yan can have a quick leap in PCS by going to a top tier choreographer. China is lacking in that part of their training program but once a Chinese skater proves himself or herself worthy internationally, s/he gets sent overseas to the likes of Lori Nichols.

I hope to see Brown get his 3A next season or a quad :)
had he had these, he would have eaten Han Yan and Farris and won by a huge margin

From the protocol, Brown really skated lights out with his program. Yan somehow goofed on the late but simple combo, winding up with 2A+1T<<+1Lo. Farris too had a bad combo, 3Lz+3T.

Can't wait to see videos of these young phenoms.

Happy for Nguyan for pulling himself up after a poor SP and for a very good 3A. Not bad for his first Junior Worlds at 13 and for dire predictions of his 3A prospect under McLeod.

Yes they are amazing. And so is Jason Brown, coming so close to their scores with no 3a or quad. Josh has a 4t, and the good result here will maybe give him the confidence to try it in international competition next season. If he does...watch out. Same for Jason and 3a. If I were Rippon, Miner, Dornbush, or Mahbanoozadeh, I'd be worried about these two.

And I really hope Song can perform like he did at his GPs at Worlds and make the top 10 because I'd love to see him and Han Yan both go to Worlds next year. All of a sudden China is looking to be a force in singles between Yan, Song, and Li!

The Junior medalists' scores are so high that with an additional jumping pass as in Seniors' LP, they are already podium worthy in the GP circuit.

I too am happy for Nam but that does not seem to change my concerns for him under Mcleod. The big problem I have with her is that often she whines about UR calls and/or low PCS scores with her students instead of acknowledging weaknesses and coming up with a plan to fix them.

Nice to see him have the 3A now but the real test of his technique will come as he grows. The immediate problem for him now is the triple-triple combos. He more often than not gets the 3T of those combos downgraded.

Glad Firus tried and rotated the 3A even if he fell. He ages out after this and needs that 3A to get that Skate Canada spot next year.

I know. And the additional element is actually a step sequence, but regardless, with the additional element, Yan and Farris would have likely scored enough to medal at this past 4CCs. And with the scores as is they would have been 9th and 10th at last year's Worlds. Puts things into perspective. The future has arrived. Also realized it's Yan's 16th birthday in a couple days, what a nice birthday present for him to win gold here! :)

Congrats to Han, Joshua and Jason! Sounds like it was quite a competition, great scores received
by the top three.

Two 2A's from Jason. Had he deployed 3A's (i.e. 1 in the SP, and 2 in the Long), he could well have won this competition. He certainly would have run Han pretty close. I'm sorry, but Jason is going to need a 3A if he is going to be competitive from here on in.

I had written "element" first thinking of SS but decided to verify first and counted 7 jump passes, erroneously. Too much verification can be just another chances for mistakes! The first instinct is often best. Anyway, so that's another 2 points BV and a chance to up the PCS.

I expected Yan to win gold. Best of the bunch, even with the silly mistake with the late 2A after which he managed to save the combo with single jumps.

That's a lot of could haves and might haves with something he doesn't have, to catch an imperfect Yan. Going forward, the other top Men will not be twiddling their thumbs waiting for him to catch up. Brown has a big task ahead for Senior podium.
