Doris, I watched them all. Katia was beautiful. A few years ago you could not turn on PBS without replays of the Celtic Women specials. Such beautiful soothing music. (Idina Menzel was on PBS today-caught last part-love her). Thanks so much for the special holiday treat. GS is special indeed. (But where did you find the Dropkick Murphies?LOL). Great job-you must have Irish in you!

Now I just need to get MM to do beginner IJS for the elderly or math challenged or the 6.0 imbued skatefan!

A teacher who does some simple tutorials---easier than debating every result. Maybe Math or someone has done this. Perhaps an ongoing teaching thead that we could always access and review in the archives. One that does not get tangential. Anyone like that idea? Or are we a forum of young fans who have been with CoP from beginning?

I nominate MM as he does much explaining, and he obviously would be good at it. Are you retired Mr. Math? I don't know how to search archives-not sure even where we keep the link. With Worlds coming us -last major comp for a long while and off season-it might be something folks would like.

Don't wish to make work if you are busy, but GS is a news source a forum and a place to learn. Might increase traffic to site to have a dedicated thread. I think there are just two big skating forums, DSu and here. It seems years ago there were more boards. They seem to have dropped away with MK. I'll bet there are several Japanese fan baords and there must be a huge Yuna one in S. korea. But, other than fan page/official websites, there are not a lot of boards. I wish there were one where we could get the gossip, i.e who is Michelle dating? I don't think they discuss that even on MK forum which I don't visit much anymore. Only Johnny tells us his exciting life, LOL.


What do y'all think? I think only a few people understand it (CoP) well from the many debate threads. I'm memory challenged so if good info is presented, I print it out. I mentioned this before, but I may be asking too much of busy mods. If archived threads exist already, maybe it's worth reviewing. I can't get Universal (have no choice of cable companies, and cannot get Dish in my bldg,) which may have IJS tutorials. Does Ice ZNetwork do education on IJS or is that a thing of past already? So I am wondering if i should buy Ice network next season. I used to watch whatever was televised, but I am more interested in the elite levels. So, what does IN cost, and does there coverage have good explanation of the judging? What exactly gets covered, and how reliable is the internet feed? We had two snowstorms this year, and this new bldg (new to me) had problems with the TV and internet and it was not a bad storm. (We in the Northeast have had a warm winter-bizarre-last year we had 88 inches of snow. So I am wondering what my cable situation will be next winter if we have a normal winter with many big storms. I'd like to move but I don't know if I can-very complicated. I will go insane if i have no cable/internet here evry time it snows. It is an old bldg in a high traffic area. I'm gonna start asking people in cable internet outtages are common here when we have normal winter. So many things you find out after you move in.

I went from single home to 14th floor apt. I don't know why my cable is worse where I am now. But I may be in for a rude awakening. I have a 13 inch laptop, and I'd have to figure out how to get IN on TV- I am always dealing with much (I'm disabled) so without a puter savvy spouse, lots does not get done. I wonder how the general IN reception is. Seems some folks had complaints in the comp threadds and it must be multi=factor- where you live, your ISsP/cable coverage, storms yada yada. But it gets frustrating waiting for youtube postings, watching the skates often in another language, and as isolated skates, not as competition. It doesn't seem TV will cover skating again as in past days. I think there are enough fans that a network or ESPN would cover it. I'm not sure how they know how many people tune in. What year was it when ESPn stopped covering GP events, GP final, Euros, Nationals etc? From 2006-2009 I missed much skating (caught up on many comps and all the top skaters through Youtube), so I don't know when coverage really dropped off. I think these programmers do USA a huge disservice, thinking there is not a bigger audience for this sport, and all the awful reality programming/IQ insulting TV shows that took the place of movies, qualility-well written comedies. While life was dealing with me so to speak, much changed in skating, and I am not sure why. Still trying to catch up.

I'd like to know who decided people only wanted skating during Olympic years. I think the pulse takers get things horribly wrong. If people watch The Housewives franchises, is it because there really are no choices? I read that people stopped watching when Michelle and Sasha left, but is that really true? How did we get to this era of hardly any coverage?

With so many expenses and fixed income, I have to be careful. I wonder if others are weighing next season. It is the season before Olympics, so it is important.

I also think it can help build community of GS-education for the older fans who really still think in terms of 6.0. It has changed what we see and it may be tweaked continuously, but it will never return. Wide variety of ages, ability, countries but I hope others if interested in a simplified (if possible) IJS 101 will speak up.

Again, not putting you on spot MM. For all I know this may have happened informally in past and is archived.

Many questions here and maybe i should have put these questions in another thread. I'm tangential, and one question breeds another I guess. Answers, info and feedback appreciated. The Dropkick Murphys are a "Celtic punk rock band". They do an annual St. Patrick Day's Show in Boston, which is why I included them here.

The song "Shipping Up to Boston" was used in the soundtrack of the Academy Award winning film "The Departed".
