Question on FD's - and not to stir up trouble, but (deep breath): can someone explain V/M's first lift - the one that sort of looked like he was about to drop her. I can't believe it is supposed to look like that, but then again...

Emma, I think it is meant to accentuate the offbeat, jazzy quality of that section of music. It's actually very much in character with the music IMO, but their proportions to each other may make its execution more difficult to be done smoothly. Tessa has very long legs which can throw off both their center of gravity with her in that position. Adding in the one foot and curved aspect only adds to making it potentially awkward if not done perfectly.

^thanks! I appreciate the explanation - and confess to not even seeing the curve before; I just sort of gasped at one point and was like, did they mean to do that? I can see it much better now.
