I have to say after much anticipation of the movie, I was somewhat disappointed. I thought the book was one of the best books I have read in along time to come. It's impossible to capture the whole essence of the book in a movie. Although I have always considered "To Kill A Mockingbird" an acception to this rule. In Cold Mountain, Jude Law gave a convincing performance, but I don't know about Nicole or Rene. I thought Nicole looked too "modern" some of the time and maybe not like she had really suffered as she did in the book once her father dies. The civil war scenes were done quite well and Inman's character was played well by Jude - it will be interesting to see how does with "Alfie" (the remake), but hey, how can you top Michael Cane?
