thanks you whispering...

a beautiful performance from this 16 year old you might know...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ni_gasbgec

I love this performance. Such purity and innocence about the young Yuna and this is one of her best programs. I wish she were skating like this now but all things end, some too soon.

Thank you so much for linking YuNa's Lark Ascending.

Up until today, for me this one is still the best program by YuNa.
I wanted to see how far artistically she could have been gone if she would have continued going for this direction...
Of course I can perfectly understand her first priority was winning that OGM in Vancouver, though.

Winning OGM is the ultimate goal for every ahtlete in the world. Do not get me wrong but I sometimes wonder how YuNa and Mao could have been able to stretch themselves artistically if they would not have concentrated only winning that medal at the age of 19... They are so much talented than just being dominant, I mean, mere massive 3Lz+3T or 3A with all level 4 spins and step sequances. Looking at this YuNa's and Mao's performance at GPF Tokyo in 2005, part of me feels 'what a shame for this sport', you know.

I wonder that, too. This is why I always hoped that professional skating would stay healthy, including the televised pro competitions. Pro skating gave skaters a chance to stretch and fans a chance to see innovative skating. In the 1990s, I remember noticing that ice dancers especially had the opportunity to break free from their constricting rules. Some of the programs that Klimova and Ponomarenko did, for example, were like ballet or modern dance, while their eligible colleagues were restricted at that point to skating to things like "The Lonely Goatherd." And remember what Kurt Browning came up with for those competitions: the Nat King Cole Spanish trilogy, "Summertime," the clown number. I know that there's a healthy pro circuit in Asia these days, and eligible skaters like YuNa and Mao can take part, but I don't know how innovative they are. Sigh; I miss the Landover competition.

Dai looks so different now. We are talking 10 years. He is one of a handful of stunning men with wonderful, unusual choreography. I wonder if he saw himself on the Olympic podium all those years ago?

They are so amazing! Not just cute but essential meryl was there at 10. You can see all the ballet training...her back, her arms and hands. Just wonderful. I thought they deserved Gold this year with their FD the best program. It must be so hard to judge ice dance I think all the time. Special little kids, for sure. It was apparent even at that age. She looks so tiny but so regal with that posture. Amazing how these great couples find each other. (And Igor and Marina!)

I thought they deserved Gold this year with their FD, too.

Looking at such a huge difference in points between the top two at Nice, I would rahter say it must have been so hard for ice dance fans to accept/agree the final placements by those judges all the time. :sarcasm:

Baby Plush. I never saw this-he is a born peformer and major ham. It was adorable. Plush before the mullett!

I had such hopes for baby Plushenko because he had those amazing dancing feet. I wish that he had developed that side of his skating instead of just jumping. I've often wondered what Tarasova would have made of him.

After we all witnessed how Alexei transformed himself into such an artist on ice under Tarasova, I agree with you.

For that matter, I am REALLY looking forward to his new programs done by Pasquale!

Here's a really young Tessa & Scott from 2001 Canadian Jr. Nationals!

If you watch the video from the beginning, there is also footage of very young Patrick Chan, Kevin Reynolds, Andrew Poje with a partner other than Kaitlyn, Myriane Samson, and Jessica Dube, both as a singles skater, and with a partner other than Bryce Davison.

And Maia & Alex Shibutani from Junior Nationals in 2005

A video of Meryl & Charlie skating a compulsory at Indy Challenge (and winning) in 1998, a year before the Thornhill video, and I believe the first year they were skating together.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRgE3g5BagM&feature=plcp

Meryl would be 10, Charlie 9. Too cute.

They are enchanting! Mind-boggling, too. When I was that age, I was good at skipping and hopping and thought I was hot stuff. My big thing was that I had taught myself to draw in perspective. Can you imagine being as good as Meryl and Charlie at something so advanced in elementary school...ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!...and never giving up at it, so you get better and better? And staying with the same partner, no less. They must have telepathic powers with each other by now.

Yes, Plushenko is a born performer, and he had/ has amazing dancing feet. If you have not seen his every programs, maybe you're wrong. I am really curious, what program do you think? Where he is only jumping?

Thanks for reminding me how adorable, cute yet beautiful and innocent Evgeni once was when he burst onto the scene!
I sometimes forget that since he's been such a killer jumper and one tough competitior for a long time. ;)

As for Alexei, I just love this performance. Not perfect technically, but one gutsy performance full of his passion and determination.

Great program, great skating from Alexei, I remember very well! Alexei was my favorite after Kulik and before Plush, honestly most of the times I preferred the Russians, but I'm not Russian. I saw Evgeni at first time in 1998 and I "felt in love with him" at the moment. Plushy amazed me with his incredible talent. I know his ALL programs, I have seen them million times, so I know he is really a "killer jumper and a tough competitor", but alongside these, a true artist on the ice. He is diverse, sometimes funny, passionate, cute, elegance, incredible speed, or simply beautiful :). Best.
