Really fun new Hip Hop exhibition program from Maia and Alex during the Skating & Gymnastics show today. Loved seeing them show another charismatic side to their dance and performance abilities.

They also posted a new album of photos from the show on their Facebook fan page:

Detroit Free Press article today about the Shibutanis (cross-posting from U.S. Nats Senior FD thread):

Jeff Seidel: Shibutani siblings put on behind-the-scenes show for fans on YouTube

    Excerpt about their skating:

Even though it seems as if the Shibutanis have been around forever, they are still young.

    Alex is 21, Maia 18.

"People have literally watched us grow up," Alex said. "We've been thrilled with our success over the years."

They continue to grow, as athletes and artists. Alex has packed on 15 pounds of muscle since March and weighs 165.

"I think everyone has taken notice of how much Alex has changed in the past year," Maia said. "It's helped our skating and our lifting ability and our overall presence on the ice."

The ShibSibs are in third place at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, and the free dance is today.

But in the big picture, in their long-term plan, they are more concerned with their development than how they might finish in any given competition.

"I think we have grown so much," Alex said. "I think we are showing a lot more maturity. It's a real natural path."

They don't plan to make a video this weekend. Then again, you never know. "I brought one camera," Alex said, "just in case something happens."

Congratulations to the Shibutanis for their bronze today. Look forward to their skates at Four Continents and Worlds.

On a day to celebrate siblings, skaters work together
    Kelly Whiteside, USA TODAY Sports
    1:05p.m. EST February 3, 2013
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...bsibs/1887637/

    Excerpt:

In figure skating, the sister-and-brother team of Maia and Alex Shibutani are simply known as the "ShibSibs." For the United States' most promising young dance team, there is no such thing as a sibling rivalry.

"The big buzz in sports is the Har-Bowl, the two brothers going at it in the Super Bowl," Alex, 21, said. "We're lucky that we can work together on something as a family. That isn't to say we don't have difficulties at times when we're working so closely together. We're both strong personalities and different people so that's bound to happen, but I think our connection as a family really keeps us going in the right direction."

After winning the bronze at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships last weekend, the ShibSibs are headed to the Four Continents Championships, which begin Feb. 6 in Osaka, Japan. In March, they will compete in their third world championships.

It's just a short, fluffy article, but some nice quotes from Charlie White about his friends/teammates made me smile.

Thanks, Mrs. P. Sooo nice that Japan makes all the skaters feel special. Don't know if the artist is the same, but more in the same style:

Of course, by Lily, he means his VERY cute dog! Awwww...and she has a cute floral collar too. Alex has a nice haircut as well. Curious if he'll wear it that way for Worlds!

Among their comments, the Shibs speak warmly of their Team Canton training mates, coaches, and environment.
The interview was conducted a few weeks ago, but if the Shibs have any thought of seeking greener pastures elsewhere, they do not show it.

golden411, what a lovely article about the Shibs
I hope next season will go smoother for them than this one has.

Worlds 2003 was such a wonderful event! No wonder it inspried them!

Shen & Zhao's inspriing win in pairs, with Shen competing with a terrible injury
Bourne & Kraatz winning the first ice dance gold medal for a North American team
and Michelle Kwan & Evgeni Plushenko winning gold, too.

Maia and Alex will be Featured Guest Performers for this year's Ice Chips Show hosted by the Skating Club of Boston! April 13 and 14 at Harvard's Bright Arena.
    http://www.icechips.org/

Alex is known for being a die-hard fan of Boston sports teams. Whenever they are mentioned at the rink and club, the Shibs are pretty much adored by the skaters and coaches at SCOB. Beautiful skaters, positive attitudes, and overall just great kids. Will be fun to watch them perform along side their Team USA friends at the club, Ross Miner and Christina Gao.
