Please post worthwhile TV if you find some

I came across a great dance show (great in the sense it is real and there is ballet) on CW -whatever that stands for...

It is called \Breaking Pointe and is kind of reality/docudrama about Ballet West and its dancers. It has already had four episoides-rats-and I just found it.

For you balletomane or simple dance fans, enjoy.

Is there a good online TV guide where I can peruse the shows and find the few gems on my channels? I have Charter Cable. Extended basic and get upset there is so little. Being home a lot, it would be great to buy whatever movie channels, but I am very selective and don't like many movies made. But I love dance, doesn't everyone? I found some clips on Aunt Joyce's Ice Cream stand.

(He is an adult skater I think, and loves gymnastics, so you will find gymnastics aplenty with Olys looming, skating and some clips of En Pointe. Or maybe On Point. Not sure if it was in english or french. It is very amusing site at times if you have not been there-worth a trip, as he says what he thinks, a bit any way.)

I hope people will use this post as a TV alert for good shows comeing on with Channel and time. It could be a PBS Great Performance, or On Point, or skating interviews, gymnastics trials. We all seem to beinterested in these sports, arts, etc.

I don't get a guide from my cable company and forget a lot, so please use this cafe thread to share the few TV gems as they get forgotten. SMASH when it begins again. I am sure all will be happy to be reminded as many are busy if not forgetful. Thanks and I hope you enjoy THE DANCERS OF BALLET WEST. I hope I can find past episodes on line...anywone know what cable channel CW stands for? Thanks and God bless.

We don't have that cable company up here, but all tv services have online information so they probably have an online guide. Check their official website.

Oh, my mistake people, it is called Breaking Pointe and you can watch full episodes on their website. Finally a reality ballet show. It says they allowed cameras for first time ever for 6 weeks before three ballets-the season I guess begin. Ballet West is a great company out of Salt Lake Utah. I will try to fix the name in the announcement thread.

Please post the good shows you get in USA and Canada. Maybe CBC allows us in US to see shows non their website? I have watch skating there before and it was current/not us blocked. I think you'll like this show as there is good dancing besides the drama-much better than a Kardashian rerun! LOL

That sounds like a tempting show. Thanks; I'd never heard of it. In fact, it sounds a bit like a one-time PBS show they had some years ago called Opera-Tunity. It was an audition contest to find new opera singers. The prize was to be a role in a new opera production in an English opera house (maybe Covent Garden; I can't remember). The contest came down to two women, and they decided to give the prize to both of them, so that each one played the character of Gilda (a leading role) in one of the acts of the Verdi opera Rigoletto. One of the sopranos was visually impaired, so they just figured out how to mark the stage so this lady could maneuver around naturally. Then they showed parts of each act of the opera so we could enjoy the results of everyone's labor. A wonderful production! My idea of what a reality show should be.

I find I like "Flying Wild Alaska" on the Discovery Channel. I also like Coast Guard Alaska on The Weather Channel.

Both of these should be on expanded basic.

I take it that you don't have an online guide with expanded basic, skateluvr?

    ugh Alaska Reality shows...

Though Alaska State Trooper *should* have a segment on Danny Seavey killing a moose attacking the dog lot during the Iditarod... it was a big story on our facebook page lol

Well, I can't expect them to be very interesting to you, Toni! Coast Guard Alaska lets my husband relive his days in the CG on Kodiak, and I like seeing it again. We went back once, but we won't be able to make a 3rd trip. And the logistics of saving people's lives in difficult conditions is very interesting to me. Back in the day, before they had the helicopters, so often all the Cg in Alaska could do was pick up the dead bodies :(

We got to Kodiak the second time on Era (the airline the Tweto's on Flying Wild Alaska run). Again, it's interesting to me to see all the off the beaten track places in Alaska that I'll never get to..more so when they are places my husband has visited, like the Pribilofs, Little Diomede, and St. Matthew. And I find the Tweto's an amusing, pleasant family.

As I've gotten older, my world has gotten a bit smaller, because of having less resources, and I love the fact that on the internet, and even on TV, I can visit those places.

BTW, I also like Pawn Stars on the History Channel, except that it makes it really hard to throw out stuff after I've watched it

Watch Hoarders then, Doris... I always throw out tons of stuff after an episode of that.

It's not so much that the subject matter isn't interesting. It's the combination of the "reality" not being real... and the fact that so many folks have moved up here to make their millions because TV told them it was so easy. We have a huge number of suicides and homeless folk who have come up here in the last year or two thanks to these shows. It's so stupid!

I certainly don't feel led to move to the Jersey Shore and try to be one of those losers... our people/life is just too cool, but everyone who comes up here doesn't do any research other than watch the boob tube, and it drives me nuts.

I'd rather watch shows about relatively happy people than about angsty soapy stuff, so I never watch Jersey Shore or Hoarders.

Also, neither CG Alaska or Flying Wild Alaska make it look like either is an easy job or a road to riches. Ice Road Truckers & the show about the Gold Miners OTOH....(neither of which I watch, other than in passing) is another thing. However, people have been going (often stupidly and illy prepared) to Alaska, thinking their fortunes will be made, long before reality TV-the Gold Rush (both at Nome, and in the Yukon) and all those guys looking to get rich building the Oil Pipeline back in the day, for example.

Another case of the grass is always greener, etc, I suppose?

I can see that Hoarders would lead you to throw stuff out though

Actually we have a "gold rush" going on now that IS based on the reality TV shows... Nome is "booming" and locals aren't all that excited because there's no where to house these unprepared people.

I only watch Hoarders when I get the mood to... like when my room is overflowing.

Another way to throw out junk is to invite company a month or so ahead. This always leads me to an orgy or cleaning and throwing out something I've done this summer.

Alas, that's generally my solution, and I've now run out of closet space. I've watched Hoarders, and it gives me agita, but it also reassures me that I couldn't qualify for the show yet. I'm tempted to call 1-800-got junk, though, after seeing it on the show.

Doris, your husband's time in Alaska sounds like the stuff of a grand saga! Like you, I do a lot of traveling by TV, internet, and the experiences of friends. It's wonderful getting to see more of the world than one could encounter on one's own resources. And I learn a lot from you guys.

I love "Breaking Pointe" too, Skateluvr but I like interesting reality shows. If you want to watch a fun reality show then try
"American Pickers" on the History Channel, Monday nights with reruns on Saturdays. I get a kick out of Mike & Frank.

Hello Doris, not much of a guide as what I found was what is on for that day, like the on tv guide shows a few hours, or maybe more. I', not good with gizmos. I mean like the TV guide once used to see in the foodstore that gave all the listings for that week. I'd like to know when the Olympic gymnastics take place ahead of time so I don't miss it.

And I did not klnow about Breaking Pointe. Luckily, I can watch the old episodes online to understand the company and dancers. Fascinating! I guess Black Swan with Portman is helping ballet make a comeback after so many companies closing etc.

For skating, I used to go to HeathersTV Page and it was all their for months-shows, comps etc.ess we're spoiled.

Flying Wild Alaska sounds nice-beautiful scenery. When do they air that?
