I loved Angela's program choreography-wise. Everything was right to the music, the theme was clearly recognizable, there was a lot of style-appropriate transitions and she had good speed and nice, deep edges. I don't see how she scored lower on TR, IN and CH than Evgenia, whose program was a bit of hot mess as far as choreo and music cut are concerned. :(
So Young (lovely twizzles and turns) and Kako were also quite enjoyable to watch. Courtney has nice spins and great speed, but I'm not fond of the spastic, flail-y choreo. ^^'

because as soon as she adds a few more inches its goodbye jumps and hello more Underrotations

? Bent knee landing and delayed rotation are actually greatly admired by skating purists; bent knee on the take-off sure didn't hurt Yuna and Shizuka any.
Satoko's jumping technique reminds me of Shizuka, Nobunari or Yuna - she just doesn't have their speed or power because she's still tiny. Her jumping style is suitable for someone with enough muscle power to generate a lot of speed into the jumps and to put more oomph into the takeoff.
Still, I think in the long term it's a better idea to learn the correct technique early (and suffer a few UR calls here and there) than learn to compensate for petite body with hammer toe or prerotation and then have to re-work jumping technique later, like Mao or Caro.

The -GoE on her combo was added because of the edge call (a bit strict call from the TC, IMHO, and 3 of the judges failed to deduct points), not because of UR.

yes I know she is tiny and could be reason her jumps are small but when I watch her I feel there is something wrong she lands her jumps
I do agree its good to get good technique while Miyahara is still young, because I notice already she is prone to UR's better now than having to rework everything later

A few interesting notes on the protocols:
- Miyahara's Flip was not given a UR mark. Replaying it, a really strict technical specialist (Ex. Amano) might've even given a Downgrade.
- Park's, Baga's, Tomotaki's, and Wang's PCS all being lower than Hicks. Anyone want to try and explain that to me?
- Hick's GOE on the Axel. It seems a tad high. A swingy, slow entry and a flawed landing should've given her base GOE at best.
- Wang's edge-call on the Flip. I personally disagree with it, seeing as how her entry with a three turn seemed to lead in with an inside-edge. However, I might be wrong because of the camera angle.
On a side note, I really pray that Miyahara adds more height to her jumps. At the current moment, I'm doubting she's going to keep her jumps after puberty.

also Gerasimova's PCS marks were too high. Hicks so did not deserve those high marks on PCS with those skating skills and execution marks

Yes, Gerasimova's PCS were a tad high, but, to be honest, I thought the program was pretty decent. The movements were what you would expect from "Seville" and she has decent posture.
However, I did not like the over-exagerated facial expressions and naive movements.
To be honest, Hicks' posture, line, etc. seem to have drastically declined since her injury. I almost feel like she has no regard for her PCS and only wants jumps. With her switch in coaches, it basically says that, if John Nicks, of all people, couldn't fix her, no one will unless she takes action.
Yeah, Miyahara's programs this season seem really "Waltzy," but her edge work is still evident. I kinda liked her programs from last season better though, especially the "Scent of a Woman" tango.

Miyahara turned 14 last March for those who were wondering. She reminds me of Kanako from a few years ago.

Now I watched the videos. There was no super baby skater in this competition. Their level are so close as we can see from scores.

Satoko deserved the first place in the short program. Her skating reminds me of Akiko Suzuki! Everything looks great but if she makes her jumps a bit higher, they will look better. Also the waltzy program is a bit boring for little girls.

Park also did a good job but did she plan to do 3S+3T? Or doesn't she have any other triples instead of salchow. I think that may not be enough for her to medal in the free skate.

Gerasimova had the best presentation for me, and the judges agreed so. She didn't put 3T+3T to her short program, maybe we will see in free. She is not a superstar but she looks promising, right? But for the Russian standards, it may not be enough to qualify for national teams.

US girls couldn't skate as they were expected to. Courtney is really bad in the presentation way, and her jumps weren't on. Only the spins were nice. Kiri Baga looks appropriate for pairs. She is talented but can't do harder jumps I suppose. Angela was going for the 3+3 maybe, but it didn't come out. Angela looks like the best one but her score is worst, let's see what happens in the free skate tonight.

I like Miyahara but agree with most of the comments about her.

I did notice that she changed the direction of the rotation on her last spin. Don't think I have seen that lately and anything that dares to be different in the CoP era is a welcome sight for me.

I seriously thought Satoko Miyahara's combo was a 3Lutz-2Toe. I was completely surprised when I saw the protocols. The tech panel didn't even mark it underrotated!

PCS wise I thought Kiri Baga and Angela Wang should have been ahead of Gerasimova. Maybe it's just me but Gerasimova's program seemed sort of mocking to classical music. But, Baga had the flow and elegance. Wang had the skating skills. In the end, I'm not a judge...

More snubbed skaters: Kako Tomotaki was so captivating. Both Tomotaki and Wang had the best individual elements for me. Both have incredible centering in their spins (and twizzles) and secure, fast footwork. Truly a shame about Wang's jumps last night. Her 3Lutz-3Toe is so amazing in comparison to Miyahara's.... Oh, and Brooklee Han did a great job representing Australia but isn't she doing some Senior B's this year?

On a separate note, is it me or do Korean skaters have exceptional Salchows?
