Roman Sadovsky of Canada is in the lead with a score of 158.77. Great jumps and tons of personality!

Tanaka just skated really well. He has oodles of potential, nice basics, and is developing an elegant style. His problem seems to be that his focus comes and goes, this was a good skate for him, but some silly mistakes were made due to what seemed to be a lapse in concentration. Should be good enough to medal for sure, just a matter of what color. I'm guessing this should score in the 130s, or at least come close.

Andd Josh Farris crushes the field by, oh, 36 points. He's like the Russian baby girls! But honestly 218+ in a junior event this early and with a 3a and 4t like that...he really belongs in the senior GP.

Judging how everyone else skated...it was deserved. I thought Tanaka's PCS should have been a bit higher, but Farris was commanding during that performance so 71 PCS is really honestly fair, could have been even higher IMO. He really belongs on the GP with jumps and spins like that, plus his speed and flow have improved. But anyways, I'm sure this was good for his confidence, and I'm super excited he executed 3a-3t and 4t with +GOE! And looking at protocols, he gave up points, edge call on flip cost him, one spin was only level 3, the 3lo was underrotated with -GOE and the 2a near the end of the program is likely supposed to be another 3a. Then if you add in the extra step sequence a senior program has, clean, that program is worth a good 160 at least. But 146 is damn good considering it's still AUGUST. Wow. Really impressed.

Yeah it is a shame. But on the upside the Canadian skater performed really well and has loads of potential, so that's really exciting, especially given the current state of "Patrick Chan and everyone else" in Canada currently. Could be a hope for 2018.

I agree on both points. However, I think this goes back to the debate of difficult technical content and high PCS. Jason gets high PCS without attempting really difficult content, which is why I think there's more controversy surrounding him. Josh is a really strong skater and he landed a 3a-3t and 4t here, so it's understandable his PCS are so high. But when people were saying that Jin's PCS were too high last week, I think the 3a and 4t helped give him a boost that without those elements he wouldn't have received. The same is probably true of Farris. Had he gone for easier content or made mistakes, the PCS would have likely been lower. So it begs the question, when/of Jason starts putting out the big tricks like 3a and quads in competition, how high can his PCS go?

In reply to silverlake's comment about Tanaka's PCS, honestly, I think some of the silly mistakes cost him on the PCS forefront.
I mean, I'm pretty sure his execution, performance, etc. were affected by visible mistakes.
On the other hand, even with the fall on the Triple Axel and Double Axel, and the somewhat botched Flying Camel, scoring 123 is REALLY good, especially considering how, last season, when Tanaka skated cleanly in the free (although he opted for the Triple Flip Double Toe as opposed to his usual Triple-Triple) at Junior Worlds, he scored mid 130s. I think he's going to be a dark horse this season, especially considering how the judges are harping at Brown's edge-calls and URs.
