Congrats to medalists: Hanyu, Dornbush, Fernandez. And to Weir, who showed a creditable return to competition.
As always, good to see Schultheiss back because he usually comes up with something interesting!![]()
I enjoyed Fernandez' program and his performance. He just popped too many jumps, particularly the 3S, or was one of them supposed to be 2S because he could not repeat 3S after all the combos?
Here are the protocols for the Men's Long Program
A few double jumps for weir and a single but also level 1 step and spin so that took off points. But a good balanced program with jumps and 2 triple axels and lutz and flip and the quad went from << in the SP to just < in the LP. It was a technically fine performance that really should only improve.
Upon reading the protocol I just realized Javi's first popped Salchow was meant to be a 4S. He will bring it next time. Now, I need the others' videos.
Johnny's tech content and BV are just too weak.

Fernandez having same pcs as Hanyu is funny. Hanyu Lp is great, and the music awesome!Only the costume looks juniorish.
Watching protocols from here and JO it looks like many try two quads in FS which is something I didnt notice last season, or is it new trend?
Only Korpi can dress like a lime lemon and look stunning!
I like Julia's sp,the costume looks irrelevant though
Oh my goodness. Richard didn't only do a Rippon Lutz, he did a Rippon Lutz 3-3 combo! That was awesome!

ETA: It was indeed a 3-3. Read the wrong line on the protocols.

I find Hanyu's programs and performances more mature and much improved this season and I really like them. The LP is packed and really challenged his stamina but he delivered. Bravo!
When he collapsed at the end there -- you knew that it took every bit of him to do that program. That said, I think he's definitely improving as far as the stamina -- I felt he was much more smarter in using his energy in the program and not doing everything at 150 percent. Perhaps Orser is helping him improve in this arena.
But yes, I loved this LP. I can't wait to see it live at Skate America!![]()
Was Hanyu still injured? Some of his movements seemed sloppy and he forgot/changed the ina bauer before the flip. Hopefully he was staggering off the ice b/c he was exhausted and not b/c he was injured.
I like Hanyu a lot - but his dramatics at the end of his programs need to stop. Its a huge turn off - he's like this for every program, injured or not.
As for Johnny Weir - slow, slow, slow - plus, it's a program meant for the 6.0 days.
