I am surprised by the low scores the judges gave Yanovskaia-Mozgov: their first Blues sequence really deserved level 1? Their edges were not so deep, but the key point were essentially well-executed... Papadakis-Cizeron have really found their way this season, they will surely be medal-contenders at the JGPF...

As in the two previous JGP's, the SD has had some counterintuitive results, almost entirely driven by the Blues pattern dance.

Bent / McKeen hit the key points. Yanovskaia / Mozgov apparently did not. For that matter, Papadakis / Cizeron continued to have timing issues in one or the two sequences. I expect to see Yanovskaia / Mozgov move up in the FD, though, based on their PCS scores.

Here's how the top eight teams hit the key points, from the protocols

Technical Controller van der Broeck FRANCE
Technical Specialist Elek HUNGARY
Assistant Technical Specialist Ellinger AUSTRIA

Papadakis & Cizeron 2Bl3 kp YNY

I know this doesn't mean anything, but the Technical Controller is French ;) And, comparing their scores with the others', I can't understand those levels: I didn't see that big difference between the Canadians-Americans and the French-Russians in the key points... The edges were quite good for all the four pairs, but the execution of the movements and the knee action was better in the Europeans', I really don't understand what do they consider to give the levels...

What do they consider for the levels? So glad you asked. Here's a rundown I put together

http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sh...ern-Dance-amp-2012-13-Rules&highlight=pattern

The above link shows examples and goes into details. Here's the short version:

It is the task of the technical committee to determine whether a team has achieved a minimum standard to get credit for the key points.

It is the task of the Judges to determine how well the whole element was done (this is where the quality of the skill is evaluated.)

I haven't watched these yet, so based on protocols alone:

Bent / McKeen got credit for all 6 key points, but their GOE from the judges was 0.36 and 0.29 for each of the two blues segments respectively.

The tech panel gave Yanovskaia / Mozgov credit for only one key point of 6, missing 4 for improper execution and 1 for timing. However, their GOE from the judges were 0.50 and 0.36 respectively; the judges, like you, (and I'm betting I'll agree after I see the SD), preferred them to Bent /McKeen.

The PCS tells the same story: Yanovskaia/Mozgov 27.08, Bent McKeen 24.31, with Yanovskaia/Mozgov about half a point better in skating skills.

The problem is the base values of the pattern dances, which in turn is determined by the number of key points hit:

6 key points gives you a base of 14.00
1 key point gives you a base of 8.00

Yanovskaia / Mozgov were 6 points in the hole before anything else was added in.

The same thing happened to Aldrridge / Eaton last week. They eventually won the event, but were down 6 points in the SD to Kosigina / Moroshkin.

doris..thanks for the links.. I don't know if its the sound at the event or something wrong with my speakers , but I'm going to blame the event ,or the ISU ..I don't know how we can get an idea of the timing with the dreadful sound.
