Takahito Mura scored 74.19 for SP. Landed 4T-2T, obviously his gorgeous 3A with +1.60 GOE, 3L and stuff, total 40.34 TES and 33.85 for PCS. Unfortunately FS was canceled due to typhoon #17.
Kanako got only 54.75 for SP, 3F and both jumps in 3T-3T were UR, PCS almost all below 7. In FS PCS was a little better while TES got again a bunch of UR, total 103.19 for FS. Here in a news clip you can see some moments of her two new progs:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zDj-ARoBss
Fedya Hino got 55.13 for SP with two falls, the FS event was canceled due to the typhoon.

I am very interested if suguri will have triples this year because last year injury meant no trIples and no nationals

Very good performance but the caller might be too lenient

2 Nana Matsushima 49.25

Tokyo Jr ladies
1 Yuka Nagai 1 1 144.60
2 Mio Sato 2 2 134.81
3 Hitomi Yaoita 4 4 119.08
4 Mei Ito 6 3 118.14
5 Satomi Akuzawa 3 6 116.60

Nagai - fell 3F in the SP and popped one jump in the FS. Overall, making good progresses.

Tokyo Sr ladies
1 Mutsumi Takayama 1 1 134.65
2 Risa Shoji 3 2 127.84
3 Nana Matsushima 2 3 126.14
4 Shoko Ishikawa 4 4 116.77
5 Fumie Suguri 5 5 112.32

Suguri - no triples as expected.

Tokyo Novice A ladies
1 Wakaba Higuchi 81.04 (FS)
2 Yuka Kito 74.72
3 Akari Matsubara 72.71

Higuchi - landed a 3Lz combo but had many errors. This score might be a little generous.

Kinki Jr ladies
1 Satoko Miyahara 1 3 151.20
2 Riona Kato 2 2 141.20
3 Mariko Kihara 3 1 141.12
4 Ayana Yasuhara 4 4 124.45
5 Kokoro Iwamoto 8 5 115.02

Miyahara - changed the SP music (to Saint-Saens' Le Cygne). This competition could be a test run. Perhaps satisfactory SP results relieved tension. Fell twice in the FS.

Kato and Kihara had good free skates. With clean SP, they will be able to place well at Jr nationals.

Kinki Jr men results
1 Taichi Honda 1 1 168.34
2 Kazuki Tomono 3 2 147.98
3 Kohei Yoshino 2 3 144.92

Kinki Novice A ladies
1 Kaori Sakamoto 91.16 (FS)
2 Mai Mihara 88.05
3 Eriko Yamakuma 75.42

The top 2 skated very well Each attempted 6 triples (all 5 triples). Probably Sakamoto, Mihara and Higichi will make novice national medalists (in Kyoto).

Marin Honda short news clip

landed 3Lz-2T-2Lo and 2A-3T

A news coverage of a 11 y.o. skater is quite unprecedented. Are they going to promote Marin as Mao the second? Maybe she's that kind of a talent. At this age, she's already talking about the Olympics as a realistic goal (not just a dream).

Thanks for the Marin clip! She's very young but so far I really like her.

It seems like Keiji's FS wasn't very good. I hope he does better at the GPF and nats...

Really nice girl.
But for Russia it is not unprecedented.
See protocols of 26 - 28 Apr 2012 " International CIS and Baltic States Figure Skating Competition, Novices Odinstovo, Russia" (this competition is in ISU Calendar). Protocols (English language) http://fsrussia.ru/upl/results/1112/CS12/finalprotocol.pdf
Aiastasia Gubanova (age 9 years 5 months) - 3F+2T, 2A, 3T+2T, CCoSp4, 3F, 2Lz, FCSp4, 3T, SISt3 - all on positive GOE.

At 2011 on "Memorial of St.Zhuk" Natalia Ogoreltseva (age 11 years 2 months) landed 3Lo+2A+Seq and 3Lz+2Lo.

At 2012 April Serafima Sakhanovich (12 years 3 months) landed 3S+3T+3T, protocols (Russian language) http://www.academy.fskate.ru/results/fcup1112/final1112_KMC_FS_Scores.pdf

But we never tell about so young skaters how high their results will be.
We only wish them good luck.

Ummm and what's really the point of bringing up the great novices the Russians have in this thread? This is about the Japanese qualifying competitions.

Japanese Regionals finished.

Here is a table of best scores of Senior and Junior Men and Ladies
1 Tohoku-Hokkaido Regional Oct.12-14,2012
2 Kanto Regional Sep.27-30,2012
3 Tokyo Regional Oct.5-8,2012
4 Chubu Regional Sep.28-30,2012 (FS for Men was cancelled, so results of only SP)
5 Kinki Regional Oct.5-8,2012
6 Chu-Shikoku-Kyushu Regional Oct.11-14,2012

Group 1 2 3 4 5 6
SrMen 125.51 141.75 187.82 74.19 160.31 200.83
SrLadies 132.63 118.38 134.65 157.94 145.07 134.34
JrMen 145.49 131.87 125.47 55.13 168.34 182.27
JrLadies 127.92 144.54 144.60 158.80 151.20 137.92

We see that results at most are quite low, names of winners are at most unknown outside Japan.
There are some interesting moments - score of Yura Matsuda (158.80) is higher than Satoko Miyahara (151.20) and Kanako Murakami (157.94).
Does it mean anything?

It is some exotic in that the Russian collect such an info in English about Japan.

And question - how the best skaters participate in Nationals? We see that not from Regionals.

Looks like Yoji Tsuboi decided to kick around.

So dude is so Dai-ish :). No video from Kyushu yet. Here is from Gardena Spring Trophy 2012 where he was the 3rd:

Isn't is the same about Russia? Not all top skaters take part in Cup of Russia series.

Is it like US skaters, do the high finishers from previous nationals or who have international comps that conflict with regionals/sectionals get a bye to Nationals?

He has not a quad, good 3A - it is not enough at international level.

Situation in Japan is unknown for me.

In Russia situation is simple.
8th or higher place at JGP Event - qualified to Junior nationals.
Final of JGP - also to Senior nationals.
8th or higher place at GP Event - qualified to Senior nationals.
Twice or more champion of Worlds and-or Euro (and show good skating at test skate) - qualified to Senior Nationals (test skate may be non-formal - some of Figure Skating Federation leaders may visit skating ring and ask to show a program).
BTW, this "non-formal" test skate is often used in Russia. I know that representatives of Federation led by Gorshkov (President of Federation) this season visited skating rings to solve does a skater deserve JGP Event.
