I found some Gold Test figures blades on Ebay for 99 cents (I guess no one wants to do figures)! Then I found Jackson Elite Plus boots for $89 to put the blades on (they are in excellent shape). Then I found out the other day that there is now a figures class at my rink! Seems like I need to get things worked out so I can get in the class! I still have to get the blades mounted on the boots, but I'm really looking forward to using them.

It's great to see there is still some interest in figures!

I wonder how many clubs are offering classes these days?

On FB, some rink is having "the figures project" and are tracking their classes on that page. It's very cool

Is there even one figures competition anywhere in the US & Canada?
If so, I didn't find it.

My old rink in Washington state has figures classes every summer, and they are very popular with skaters of all levels. I saw figures contested at the Pacific Coast Adult Sectionals when they were in Sherwood, OR several years ago. I would love it if more adult competitions had figures portions. I think there is a fair amount of renewed interest in figures, but not so much in having separate boots as most of the people practicing them want to translate the skill to their free skating turns.

Seems to me it might be a good option for older skaters.

I hope my pronation doesn't mess me up. Maybe doing figures will help me get more control over it.

No one checks what kind of blades you're wearing when you take a test. If you take a figures test, the judges will check the tracings up close, but otherwise they're just watching from a distance so all that matters is that you accomplish the moves at least adequately for that level, regardless of the equipment you're using

I wonder if anyone has ever passed prepreliminary moves wearing hockey skates.

Figures is part of the adult track test. The very "simple" figures (I put simple in quotations, because figures are anything but).

You can take figures either on the adult track or standard, but you have to find older judges who have figures appointments.

I stumbled across the Compulsory Figures Project page on FB and found that it's still going strong. There's tons of interesting stuff about figures and skating in general there. It's well worth a look. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/417864058269890/

The page has lots of vintage photos and videos; this gorgeous photo of John Curry is just a sample: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204739607563485&set=gm.824101567646135&type=1&theater

I love this site..I go regularly there and read. Lots to learn and to see there! Once Richard quoted from a German book about figure skating from the 70s which used to be a staple for every coach around here.
