Totally agree! The purity, beauty and vitality of her personality comes through as the host of a show and tour guide as much as it does in her skating. She brings a smile to my face. She's truly one of a kind. Here are the links for the show on youtube:

I really really liked seeing Mao dance the traditional dance, and listening to liebestraum brought back some memories. I loved it when the violinist played czardes, I kept thinking about Mao's lp from 2007 when she skated to the music. overall it was a really nice show, hope Mao will attend more shows like this in her break.

Interview from Worlds (source)

Unsure of retirement, Mao Asada; “There’s no need to decide now.”

Q: How did you spend your time the other night?
A: My check-up lasted till around 11:30 at night. After that was finished, I went home for dinner, and then chatted with my coach, Nobuo Satou. We talked about how we’ve troubled one another, and to say our thanks. My coach had said that “In the end, you’ve worked very hard.” Afterwards, we discussed his previous experiences, other coaches, and just casual conversation (laughs). We didn’t really talk about anything having to do with the free skate.

Q: Do you find it hard to be parting with Nobuo Satou?
A: These three years have definitely been very tough. No matter what I did, it didn’t feel like I was able to skate or jump the way I wanted, leading to not being able to pull off a performance that I can be proud of. Even if I was able to get good results, I wasn’t completely satisfied. However, it felt like I was able to achieve the performance that I’ve been searching so hard for during the Sochi free skate and my performance in the World Championships.

Q: Nobuo Satou has dropped hints of wanting to continue working with you. Do you wish to do the same as well?
A: Three years after the Vancouver Olympics, no matter how hard I tried, I was unable to skate a program the way I myself wanted. I was never happy with my skates, as they never met my own set expectations, and that feeling continued on for the past three years. It was because of this that I decided to bet everything on the Sochi 2014 Olympics. However, I was able to skate in a way that finally met my own expectations during the free skate at Sochi and also at the 2014 World Championships. I thought that if this feeling could’ve arrived sooner, it would’ve been a lot better. It wasn’t easy finding that feeling. I’ve already accomplished one of my goals, and I still have yet to find my next. Of course it’d be fine if I continued skating like I am right now, but I think that a little time to rest up and recover is also a must.

Q: After a competition last season, you said that you wanted to give it your all during the Sochi Olympics. How has that feeling changed since this season?
A: That… That was when I didn’t know when I would be able to reach my ideal performance. It was because I thought that way that I said that probably.

Q: Was it because you wanted to keep your focus during the competitive season that you said that there would be a fifty-fifty chance of you retiring?
A: It’s just like what I said during the international press-conference. I plan on waiting for everything to calm down during the off season to decide, so I’ll say it’s half and half for now.

Q: Regarding your future, do you think that you’ll continue your competitive skating career?
A: It all comes down to whether or not I will continue skating, and whether or not my physical condition will allow for me to. It’s an ambitious goal, so if I were to continue, I’ll definitely need to have the awareness and motivation for it. If I can find the determination to skate, I’ll do it, but if I can no longer ignite that spark, I won’t be able to. However, I don’t think that I need to answer that now, seeing as there’s still time to decide.

Q: Apart from skating, is there anything else that you wish to pursue?
A: Hm… Things that I want to pursue… There’s not much (laughs). What is there… What will it be? Although there isn’t anything specific that I want to pursue now, there are still a lot of ice shows! The latest one will be in April, and we’ll be touring around the country for that. I’m really happy that people from all over Japan will get the chance to see my performances live.

Q: What do you think is the difference between the Saitama Super Arena and the Sochi Olympics?
A: It felt like that the audience in Japan was a lot more cheerful and encouraging to all of the skaters, not just the Japanese ones. I was able to experience this support, and I was really happy. I’m really proud to be Japanese.

Hmm, it seems like Mao's biggest goal after Vancouver was to skate a performance she could be proud of. She certainly did that in Sochi, though perhaps not under the circumstances she'd hoped for. I still believe she'll return, though she'll need to find a stronger motivation than "skate more satisfactory performances" (though satisfactory performances will undoubtedly be part of her plans. ;)).

Thank you ionap and chapis for the information.

Does anyone know how you can see videos of the show because they are not currently available on youtube. I would be willing to be pay to get a video version via internet even if it is never loaded on youtube, but that seems unlikely.

I found it fascinating that Mao used an uplifting spiritual song about redemption, I'm Going to Let it Shine, for her newest exhibition, since that is what she has come to symbolize in the wake of her nearly miraculous comeback in the freeskate at Sochi. The song was written in 1920 and is often thought to be an African American spiritual song based on The Bible It became a Civil Rights Anthem for African Americans in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. Significantly, the head dress that Mao wears resembles the ones that African American slaves or later servants wore when working as maids or in the cotton fields. The famous blind African American singer, song writer and composer Ray Charles also sang a secularized version of the song called "This Little Girl of Mine". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Little_Light_of_Mine.

I also found it interesting how closely a movie in which the song is played, Corrina, Corrina bears some similarities to Mao's own life. In that movie, the African American actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg, who herself experienced personal redemption in her own life by overcoming drug addiction, plays the role of a nanny named Corrina who takes care of a little white girl named Molly, whose mother has passed away and whose father is an atheist. Molly and Corrina quickly form a close bond through the love of music and Corrina gives Molly inspiration and helps the little girl cope with the passing of her mother by explaining "that Molly's mother is with the angels and perhaps Manny (Molly' father) is jealous of the angels who get to spend all day with his wife. Molly finds comfort in knowing her mother is somewhere happy." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrina,_Corrina_ In, the movie, Molly's father was an atheist who is slowly transformed.

Corrina played by Whoopi Goldberg sings the song "I'm Going to Let it Shine" in church with a gospel choir at the end of the movie.

^ Wow, thank you for your insightful post, gotoschool. I understand why Mao chose this song for her new EX program and knowing the history behind it I'm even more excited to see her skate to it.

The movie parallel is also quite fascinating, and we can easily picture Mao as Molly. Corrina would probably be the sport itself, because figure skating has always been Mao's inspiration and motivation to strive, no matter the amount of difficulties she had to face.

Tomorrow Fuji TV is airing the show so I hope somebody will upload some videos.

Woah, that's some interesting information, Gotoschool. Judging by the costume, I think Mao and her team new the story behind the music.

Looking forward to videos!

"The Ice" show has its own Youtube channel.

You can see most of last year's show there, and they started putting stuff on there for this year too (Davis & White teaching everyone some choreography - maybe for the audience to join in?)

www.youtube.com/user/theiceCTV/videos

I don't know how quickly they upload stuff... but at least you don't have to pay!
