Thanks for the wonderful jump collection yhma fan. I think Mao's jumps are the most beautiful no matter what anyone says. Here is a fancam of Mao's Sochi freeskate from a Russian fan of Mao.

At first, I thought it was too far away but the zoom lens and the different vantage point somehow combined to make it very moving to watch. I was amazed at how dramatic and expressive her balletic extensions and exits to her jumps were from so far away. Totally unique.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Sports should keep progressing. Challenges always deserve praise. If you truly are a sports fan, you should admire her guts, effort, and never-give-up attitude.

Written by one of her fan in the comment box of her video. very well said

and I am a bit surprised at that because as a fan of Mao and Yuzuru, what I admire the most about them is that that’s just the point,
especially their never-give-up spirits and the stubbornness which they have on their jumps etc,
Yuzuru will never remove his 4S from his programs unless he is in very bad condition as well as Mao had a strong insistence on her 3A.
I can’t imagine what her program without a 3A in any ways.

According to this article she hasn't decided/confirm any company as her sponsor. but for me it sounds like she is not yet sure whether she will continue to compete or not. Also, there is a rumour that Toyota will sponsor her for a while.

Your welcome! This bird's eye view gave me a chance to see my all-time favorite performance by a gutsy and radiant angel from a whole new angle, as if Mao had left the bounds of earth and were flying in the sky. Seeing Mao's expressive balletic extensions from such a height reminds me of wings gliding and taking flight and looking down at her wave-like body motions that sway my emotions are like looking down from a high bluff at the swells of an ocean through the lull and gusts of a tempest. This vantage point reminds me of what one journalist wrote, who was in the audience in Sochi and liked Mao's performance the best. He had such a high opinion of this 4 minutes of perfection that his description was literally soaring with praise:

Asada is the one person in this whole field who does the triple axel....and when she takes off and nails it 10 seconds in, suddenly, this unseasoned observer no longer finds anything funny or unusual about this sport: It is simply beautiful. For the next four minutes, Asada glides about a foot above the ice, flying around the arena, rising into the rafters, lifting out of the arena and into the sky. You will not convince me this did not happen.

The journalist even entitled his article, "Simply Beautiful" in honor of this near miraculous performance by Mao.

I also found this interesting comment about the filming of the performance on webcam, which I posted earlier:

I found this in Russian social network vk.com, but this guy (Vladimir) made only this one. He told me he's not actually a FS fan, but he likes Rachmaninov's music. ) So that's why he decided to record Mao's skating. But after watching, he was so impressed. He really think that this was the best performance in the night!. "So happy and proud for Adelina and Russia, but for me Mao Asada wasn't defeated" - these are his own words ))

Thanks for sharing and the explanation. The angle of the video really does add something more to the performance which I already found brilliant after watching it from the TV angles. Love it!

This. All of it! That was a true champion's performance, regardless of placement, and one of the best displays of pure athleticism, human triumph and incandescent artistic beauty I have ever seen in life. Simply magnificent, it was beyond words. Thank you for sharing this. I'm going to watch it one more time and cry and marvel all over again.

Your welcome! You have written a beautiful description of the performance. Too bad this almost miraculous performance was scored so unjustly.

Here is another video of Mao in Young Japan Action that I hadn't seen before.

And here is a link to the special about Mao's Sochi LP that aired around New Year's. It's in 6 parts. I don't know if this has been posted or not.

Hello all Mao's fans! So Mao said she still unsure with the future, but what doest it mean? How do you think what will be her final decision? Hope she will not retire.

Hello. My opinion is that Mao will not come back. I hope I am wrong because this season has been so boring without her.

I agree that this season has a great sense of emptiness with Mao gone. The one thing that is for sure is that she will continue to skate. In a recent interview talking about her future and the area affected by the earthquake and tsunami, she said this, "While I have not decided whether I'll make a comeback to competitions or to be a pro skater, I want to create the atmosphere where people come to smile naturally in any ways - such as holding ice shows in Tohoku area and coming to Tohoku to talk with people here."

I don't know what she will decide because she doesn't even seem to know herself right now. It's wonderful that she is so full of joy these days, so the most important thing for me would be for her to choose something that would keep her feeling that way. I have mixed feelings about her returning because of her being underscored relative to the competition especially in her LPs, but her legendary performances are worth so much more than a numerical score, so it still would be nice to see more competitive programs from Mao. It's really hard on the nerves though.

Sorry for the late reply, Lette. I'm glad that Mao is your favorite skater. She is my favorite skater too and Sochi is my favorite performance. I've written a lot about that on posts on this thread. I would really like to know more about why you like Mao so much. Also, what other performances of hers do you like?
