If you wondered how the tie breakers and exact standings worked out:

The seven tiebreakers are listed after each team/skater's name(s)
1.Highest placement at an event. A skater that placed first & third, and a skater that had two seconds, each have 26 points. In that case, the skater that won an event is ranked ahead.

2.Highest combined total scores in both events. If a skater who won two events earned 200 points at one event and 250 at a second, he has a combined score for the two events of 450. If another skater also won two events, with 190 at one event and 250 for the other, he has a combined score of 440. The skater with a combined score of 450 is ahead.

3.Participated in two events, rather than one event.

4.Highest combined scores in the free skating/free dancing portion of both events.

5.Highest individual score in the free skating/free dancing portion from one event.

6.Highest combined scores in the short program/original dance of both events.

7.Highest number of total participants at the events that the skater competed in. Suppose there were 20 skaters at event A and 20 skaters at event B and 18 skaters at event C and 18 skaters at event D. If all six other columns were tied, the skater who competed at A&B finishes ahead of the skater who competed at B&C. (In the case of dance & pairs, each team is counted as 1, which is why you can find an odd number in the seventh tiebreak column.

The finalists - who they are?

MEN:
Joshua FARRIS USA - well-known skater (2nd place World Junior Championships 2012), his result was predictable.
Maxim KOVTUN RUS - "new star" and hope that situation in Russian Men's skating becomes better.
Jason BROWN USA - also well-known skater (3rd place World Junior Championships 2012), predictable result.
Boyang JIN CHN - new good Chinese skater, his results at Asian FS Trophy 2011 and national competitions showed his talent before JGP.
Ryuju HINO JPN and Keiji TANAKA JPN - known skaters of high, but not highest level. Their good luck (and not so good skating of Han Yan, injury of Nathan Chen) -because this they are in Final.

LADIES
Elena RADIONOVA RUS - well known in Russia very good skater. Her result was quite predictable for Russian fans.
Angela WANG USA - known skater, who showed very good progress from previous season.
Anna POGORILAYA RUS - "new star" (although not first value star, but who knows future? she has where to grow), her results are better that we could hope, in unofficial list of Russian pretenders for JGP events (on results of previous season) she was 8th, so even one Event of JGP was not guaranteed for her.
Satoko MIYAHARA JPN - well known skater (4th place World Junior Championships 2012), her results and her unstability - nothing new.
Hannah MILLER USA and Leah KEISER USA - good known skaters, their results are normal for their level. They earned Final - it is normal (but not guaranteed) result of their level and level of other competitors.

PAIRS
Margaret PURDY / Michael MARINARO CAN - known pair who showed very good progress this season.
Lina FEDOROVA / Maxim MIROSHKIN RUS - also known young pair with good progress.
Brittany JONES / Ian BEHARRY CAN - new pair (before this season they skated with other partners), their new partnership gives good results.
Maria VIGALOVA / Egor ZAKROEV RUS - pair with very young female partner (born 29 Jun 1999), very good international debut. They were 4th at Junior Nationals past season. They are from Perm city - it is rare in Russia that really good skaters are not from Moscow or StPetersburg.
Vasilisa DAVANKOVA / Andrei DEPUTAT RUS - well known pair (3rd place World Junior Championships 2012, 1st place Junior Nationals), Vasilisa has some problems of puberty issues.
Xiaoyu YU / Yang JIN CHN - well known (2nd place World Junior Championships 2012) Chinese Junior pair.

Dance - may be, somebody who is more familiar with Ice Dance will write about them.

Excerpt below - which includes season's best scores -- is from ISU's event preview (04 December 2012). http://www2.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/...3,4844-205151-222374-nav-list,00.html?id=1211

World Junior silver medalist Joshua Farris (USA/seasons best 218.69 points) and Maxim Kovtun (RUS/seasons best 219.19) struck gold twice in their events and lead the standings. The other competitors are defending ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champion Jason Brown (USA), Boyang Jin (CHN), Ryuju Hino (JPN) and Keiji Tanaka (JPN). Jin is the only newcomer to the Final.

The other competitors are Angela Wang (USA), Anna Pogorilaya (RUS), Satoko Miyahara (JPN), Hannah Miller (USA) and Leah Keiser (USA). All Ladies will compete in their first Junior Final.
