    Evgeni Plushenko

    Plushenko is Just 30!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWZtD7IUNr4 more than 1.033.000 viewers amazing video

This thread was opened in honor of Evgeni Plushenko, who will be 30 in 03 November. No one can deny his results, and many people believe that he is the best skater after II. World War. President of ISU Mr Cinquanta told to Gorshkov (http://www.rg.ru/2010/11/23/plushenko.html) :
Президент ИСУ Оттавио Чинкванта говорил мне, что считает Плющенко, возможно, лучшим одиночником всех послевоенных времен.
    google translater:
ISU President Ottavio Cinquanta told me that he thinks Plushenko probably the best single skater of the postwar era.

He deserves this thread. He has the most titles and the longest career, the people familiar with the name and love him. He proved he is really a legend. He was a teenager when he started to win competitions, and year after year we are amazed by his consistency. He gave so much to figure skating. He is an incredible athlete.
Six days time and he will celebrate his birthday, I would like to do a presentation of his career from the beginning to the present. I'm trying to make it interesting, because he's basically an interesting and exciting personality.

    Main results( Wikipedia):

    He is the 2006 Winter Olympics gold medalist, 2002 Winter Olympics silver medalist, and 2010 Winter Olympics silver medalist, three-time (2001, 2003, 2004) World champion, seven-time (2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012) European champion, a four-time Grand Prix Final champion and a nine-time (1999–2002, 2004–2006, 2010, 2012) Russian national champion.

Plushenko's technical achievements are numerous. He is one of the few male skaters to perform the Biellmann spin. He was the first skater in the world to perform a quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop-double loop jump (4–3–2) combination in competition, at the 1999 NHK Trophy (he has since landed his 4–3–2 combination 26 times so far). He is the first skater to have landed a quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop-triple loop (4–3–3) combination in competition, at the at the GPF Final 2002 (he has since landed his 4–3–3 combination four times so far). Plushenko is also the first skater to land a triple toe loop-triple toe loop-triple loop-double loop (3–3–3–2) combination, which was at the 2005 "ARD Gala". At the European Championships, he landed a six jump combination (3–3–2–2–2–2) in his exhibition program. He has landed a four jump combination; 4 toe loop-3 toe loop-2 loop-2 loop, at the World Championships in 2001. Plushenko has landed a consistent quadruple toe loop in competition, and has also landed a quadruple salchow in Samara, Russia at the 2004 "Second stage of Cup of Russia". It is estimated that he has landed a total of about 100 quads in competition.

At the age of 16, Plushenko was the youngest male skater to ever receive a perfect score of 6.0. He received a total of seventy five 6.0s before the new Code of Points judging system was introduced, most of them were presentation marks!
Plushenko is the only male figure skater in the modern history of the sport to have won three Olympic medals in singles (Gillis Grafström won four in the early years of the sport, from 1920–1932).[62]

    Biography:

If anyone would like to read his biographical novel, can download it: http://www.mediafire.com/?z9ziocao3m3a1
(We could know why he not became an actor in USA…)
Very sincere book. This is not an official translation, one of his fans translated it into english , for free, she was working on it for six month, and then said that Plushy is a chosen man. But someone don't want to read, I briefly summarize…

    Early years:

Plushenko was born in Solnechny, Khabarovsk Krai,Siberia, Soviet Union. (Solnechny means Sonny, and his hair are the reasons why the Japanese fans call him Sonny boy) His parents were poor but honest workers. They worked on Baikal-Amur Mainline, but Plushy was constantly sick, and they have moved to Volgograd. Since he frequently suffered from colds, his mother decided he needed exercise and enrolled him in figure skating lessons at age four.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40M3l2jZ35w he was cute and very talented

When he was eleven years old, Plushenko's ice rink in Volgograd was forced to close. He was then sent to Saint Petersburg without parents.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_fgqwyMuYk he adores his mother.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixm3FTDIR_U the apartment where he lived alone in St. Petersburg…by CTV

Plushenko made quick progress on the international scene under Mishin's tutelage.

Mishin, one of the great wisecracking storytellers in skating, loves to describe 11-year-old Plushenko's arrival at the famed Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg: "He looked like a cheap chicken, very green and very blue and no fat .... very ecological!"

-His first debut on WJCH, 1995/96 season, 6th place
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRZoZWEzCYQ sooo cute
-As a 14-year-old, he won the 1997 World Junior Championships, this victory made him the youngest World Junior Champion ever.

    1998.
At 15, he finished second at the senior European Championships and he finished third at the senior 1998 World Championships. This victory made him the youngest World medalist ever.

Mini Plush doesn't have a big nose ? How is it possible... . Actually, the room in the state communal apartment that they could afford to rent years ago is currently no longer considered livable by the local government. Because it is too small to fit for habitation standards, according to the current St-Petersburg local law, i.e. it's smth. like lesser than 10 square meters ot somesuch. Nowdays it's juridically non-residential premises that can be used as a closet or maintenance room by the residents of that communal apartment. That is where his career started. The dude is absolutely self-made.

Here is probably the longest documentary about Plu, over 2.5 hours, made in 2006:

Video 11 works fine on my computer. In the link for Video 12 was indeed a misprint in my original post (I missed last two letters: ohwell, I edited. Thanks for pointing that out.

I saw him live a lot since I was lucky to be from the same city! COR in 1999 was also held in his home town but it was in the old skate arena SKK (the New Arena wasn't available yet, under construction), located a little far from the subway (imagine to work on foot from the station in Russian winter! ) and less convenient. But who cares, we knew why we came . After the competition he said in the interview that he was very shocked by the fact that a second the music started, the audience started applauding. Why wouldn't they if it was a gypsy dance! It simply happens automatically with Russians! He felt surprised but we found out about that only later in the interview, because neither his skating nor any move of his face or body didn't reveal his true feeling. He won.

    Happy Birthday, Plushy!

Time really flies. I still remember 1998 World, witnessing how a star was born. Even though at that time I was sure that he will be a great Champion one day, I never had dreamed what he actually achieved later. To many around the world, he is synonymous to the sport of figure skating. I wonder how long we will have to wait to see another three-time Olympic medalist in figure skating.

Let's talk, you saw THAT Nijinsky performance live? Oh, you lucky lucky people in Saint Petersburg! His best competitive performances are always in his home town, Saint Petersburg 300 at GPF 2003, and Nijinsky at Russian National.

I always feel a bit strange that his best gala performances (in my opinion) are all in Vancouver, the debut of Sex Bomb and Je Suis Malade.

Yes, he was tiny when he first burst into the scene. At the 1996 World Junior Championship, the commentator said he was "as small as the female pair skaters". It is a wonder that he could maintain such jump consistency during the growth spurt, his technique is just so pure. That is also why I am pretty confident that Liza will come out of puberty just fine.

I m not sure but I think he had the big growth spurt during summer 2000, I remember a video of an early GP where Terry Gannon() was saying he suddently got tall several centimeters that threw him off.

In spring of 2009 he officially announced that he come back, and will be involved at the Olympics. His girlfriend, Yana said to him, "you can do it", "you can do it". Yana is wise, smart and strong woman, perfect for Plushy. She was the mainstay, when Plushy thought that can't do the preparation. Plushy had to lose weight 10 kg, it wasn't easy.
    He married Yana Rudkovskaya, 12.09. 2009. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bRNqjHjWYg
There was a great interest towards the wedding. Some TV company bought the broadcasting rights, including a Japanese TV, which paid EUR 50.000 per minute. 1.2 million euros were the revenues.

His first SP plan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPHWC9ZImCY Chopin, not to mention he is beautiful on ice
    But they have changed.

After this victory started the attack against him, especially in North American media. A sharp contrast to the way Plushenko was judged at the 2006 Torino Olympics was also pointed out. In Torino, he was regarded as a genius, who after Yagudin's exit had no equals left; in Vancouver, he was perceived as an unwelcome threat to be reduced to an average skater easily bested by any Tom, Dick and Harry. After his retirement "men's figure skating was quietly deteriorating. If you can't fly - at least crawl prettily. Instead of the elements that a few rare individuals are able to conquer, the emphasis began to be placed on the better quality performance of what can be done by 500 men. A multitude of athletes, their coaches and sports officials had already made their plans for the upcoming Olympics. And then thunder struck - Plushenko has returned!"
“As soon as Plushenko announced his return, the ISU distributed an instruction video on the subject ‘How Not to Skate!’ And imagine, Plushenko starred in it!" said Alexei Mishin smiling..."I think the Americanadian camp whose representatives do not possess a quadruple jump didn’t want Plushenko to become the Olympic champion and did all it could to prevent that.”( Wikipedia)

But his fans were very happy because of his come back . They made videos for Plushy. These are my favorites, fantastic montages!!!

That is a very controversial defeat. Many people supported and defended him, not only his fans, experts, skaters, as Plushy said, he had army of defenders. And in North America begun to say he is only a jumper...Ridiculous!!!I'm angry and I think they don't know his skating, don't know the facts.

WCH: He withdrew from the 2010 World Championships citing injury.

Plushenko skated in exhibitions soon after his withdrawal from Worlds. On June 28, 2010. the International Skating Union announced that Plushenko had lost his eligibility due to participating in skating shows in March and April without the Russian figure skating federation's authorization. Loss of eligibility and reinstatement, but on 12.06. 2011, it was announced that the ISU had reinstated him by a unanimous vote.
