I just did read it - I'm glad you DID post in it, aschiutza - and all other voices of reason, too.

I suppose Plushy should feel flattered really - any stray comment of his not only merits a thread of its own, but the appellation "news" as well. Funny, isn't it, that the thread WASN'T called

NEWS! Plushenko Calls Yuzuru Hanyu the Future of Figure Skating

    - as, based on that interview, it could have been.

And that there were never threads called:

NEWS! Plushenko Pays Tribute to Brian Joubert

NEWS! Plushenko Says He Loves Jason Brown's Skating

NEWS! Plushenko Congratulates Mao Asada on Her Third World Title

It's so... odd, isn't it? I wonder why that is... ? Hmmm... no, 'tis a mystery...

It also amuses me that apparently saying that someone is "good, but average" is now slamming/bashing and shows you are a jealous hater.

I wonder how a fellow-forum member would react if I called them a "hater" because they said a skater was "good, but average"?

Oh, it's a funny old world, innit?

Sometimes I don't understand hater, I mean their logic is so awesome I don't get why they could throw common sense away. they say age comparison is stupid and I was like: "then what should we compare?"
    Poor Plushy.

Oh, age comparisons are "stupid" - except when they are doing it. And what to compare? Oh, anything they decide on, which would make the person they hate - in this case Plushy - look bad.

But you know, when someone says that Plushy should have gone out there - even with a broken screw in his back... well, at that point, what is there left to say, really? Nothing can suprise me after that.

    Interview With Denise Biellmann:
    05.04.2014 http://skateguard1.blogspot.hu/2014/...biellmann.html
Q: Who are your three favorite skaters of all time and why?
A: Robin Cousins! I loved his artistic interpretation and strong jumps. Yuna Kim, for me a perfect all around skater, artistically and athletically. Thirdly, Evgeni Plushenko. He never ceases to amaze me!

I have a great collection about Plushy during in Sochi Games..

Canadian skater Reynolds: I'm proud because i will compete at the Olympics with Plushenko
“It’s absolutely amazing the longevity he’s had,” said Kevin Reynolds of Canada, who finished second in the men’s long program. “He’s been doing quads since the age of 14. To do what he’s done at that age is absolutely incredible.”

"Plushenko - a true professional, focused on what he was doing. He looked good on the ice, and I think it is worth waiting for a good performance - said Libers. - I am honored to go on the ice with him. Course, I was concentrating on its program, but managed to look like he rides. I can say that it is a great short program, as everything he did was done purely ".

Kurt Browning: “It’s like when you’re going to a Neil Diamond concert, you’re thinking, ‘Really?’ And then as soon as he walks onstage, you go: ‘I’m glad I came. He knows what he’s doing,’” said four-time world champ Kurt Browning, who’s here as an analyst for the CBC.
“When somebody steps on his stage, and owns it, you’re glad you’re seeing it — and that’s what Plushenko does.
“He’s not one of my favourite skaters, because I’m more intricate and I like footwork. So is he in my top 5? Well, no, because that’s not his priority. Do I want to watch him? Yes. I do not go to get a sandwich while Plushenko’s on the ice.”

Evan Lysacek : "For me, an ideal skater Plushenko "

Tags Sochi 2014 Russian team male skating Evan Lysacek Evgeni Plushenko

Olympic champion Vancouver 2010 figure skating Evan Lysacek shared expectations of the performance of Evgeni Plushenko in Sochi.

    - What does the champion of the last Olympics in the men's hands, pre-launch a program ?

    - Team competitions gave some idea of the results that can be expected in the form of individual programs . Plushenko brilliantly acted for the Russian team , so he is definitely one of the main candidates for the prize . But let's not forget what he has strong competitors : the triple world champion Canadian Patrick Chan , Japanese Yuzuru Hanyu , who incredibly progressing lately.

He's still quite young, but already the winner of the Grand Prix. His compatriot Daisuke Takahashi is also very good. The winner will be the one who will be able to avoid mistakes , and, of course , much will depend on the complexity of the program. For example, in a Team Plushenko skated his program almost flawlessly and earned high scores.

    - Were you surprised Plushenko form in the team tournament ?

    - Yes, he's in great shape ! He is the only representative of Russia in men and it great responsibility . Your country expects him to medal, and it can not push psychologically. Many doubted whether he was ready to perform at the highest level. But he was able to prove that his ability to withstand this stress. He is very experienced and psychologically stable . This can be a decisive factor in men's competitions , which involved a lot of newcomers .

For many years I know Plushenko , together we participated in a tour in the United States . He joined him after a win at the Olympics in Turin. We often see each other at competitions . On Plushenko I'd rather be equal , because he was older than me. For me, it is an ideal skater . I remember watching his performance in Salt Lake City. In Turin I have personally participated in the competition , but then I did not fight with him for a gold medal, and came in fourth place - Lysacek said .
Lysacek: I think he is the greatest skater. http://www.pressball.by/pbonline/other/76679

    Chan:
    - Plushenko earned the right to this unique holiday. He did his job well in the command start. Plushenko without Russia would be difficult to create such a significant lead over the competition. He played a major role in your victory.
For me it was a great honor to speak with Plushenko on the same ice. Now I want to wish him good health ..
Plushenko changed figure skating, raised it to a new level. I will say more : he is a legend of figure skating ..
Plushenko is to be commended . Remember how great the audience supported him during his speech . How love him ..

American skater Weir : if not back, Plushenko would have won a medal
    February 20, 2014 , Thursday. 22:12
American figure skater Johnny Weir , who works as a television commentator , believes that Plushenko would have won a medal in the individual tournament at the Olympic Games in Sochi, if not for back problems.

" Eugene - my friend , he always supported me in the competition , he's a good person . If the problem did not prevent him to go out on the ice , he would have won a medal . I was very glad to see him in the team tournament - he rode like a god " , - quotes Weir ITAR-TASS. http://www.championat.com/olympic14/...-by-medal.html

The Olympic News Service has provided the following from athletes after they compete

Comments from figure skater Jason BROWN (USA) following the men's team event free skating at the Iceberg Skating Palace on Sunday.

    Jason BROWN (USA):

On being on the same ice in the warm-up group with Evgeni PLUSHENKO (RUS):
"It was so surreal. I watched him win silver in 2002, and four Olympics later, I'm on the same ice as him."
"This morning I was nervous (in practice). It was the first time I was on the same ice as (PLUSHENKO), but he was so nice."

Katarina Witt in "Corriere della Sera" 23.02.2014, about Plushy lush45: (speaking about men's competition):

"I missed so much Evgeni Plushenko. His charisma, his presence on the ice, his aura. Pity to see him leave the game on this way, but the controversy will not scratch Evgeni's career."
    ...
Zakrajsek is also an advocate of periodization -- varying training intensity over time -- and thinks the Japanese teenager may be peaking just right.
"People who taper [off] too soon, and too much, generally don't deliver key performances," he said. "Yuzuru is young, and he's topping up for confidence. Someone like Plushenko, who is much older (31), can top down and still deliver in competition."
    ....

The men's short program takes place Thursday, so Hanyu's job lies ahead. He isn't in touch with any friends on social media, his custom during competitions. He enjoyed participating in the team event, in which Japan placed fifth overall, and was a bit starstruck to compete against Plushenko.
"I have admired him for a very long time," he said. "He is my idol. I am so glad to compete with him on the same ice. I want to act and perform just like Plushenko."

Orser hears this and makes a bit of a face.
"Really? I don't know about that," he said. "I was quite surprised with Plushenko in the team event. He did stuff I didn't expect. I mean, he was alive when I competed. I've skated in shows with him.
"But I think what Yuzu meant was he wants to be like him, in that Plushenko is a superstar."

    before Sochi
    Ottavio Cinquanta:
#RaiSport2 Cinquanta: "#Plushenko deserves all our respect, he has given more to #figureskating than many other figureskaters put together".

Thanks, plushyfan! Great to have all those collected in one place. Yes, the appreciation for Plushy from skaters both currently competing, and past, is truly moving. Talking of moving - plushyfan, do you have the quote of Evan's reactions when Plushy had to withdraw? I think you quoted it in another thread, but I think it would be really great to have it here, in his own thread, as well.

    ....
Lysacek put on his commentator's hat, analyzing Plushenko's chances. He defeated the Russian by 1.31 points for Olympic gold in Vancouver.

"His weakness has always kind of been in the components, the [lack of] complexity of his programs," he said. "The short program usually sheds less of a spotlight on that than the free skate does, so the free skate will be very telling."

As we all know now, Plushenko won the team men's free skate, despite doubling several planned triple jumps and seemingly improvising much of his choreography.

Four years after Vancouver, is it possible Plushenko could contend for an individual medal?

"I wouldn't count him out," Lysacek said. "I think he is definitely still a major player. He is as tough as any athlete in any sport, to go out and do that on home turf. When the Russian pair team skated, people were very loud and rowdy. When Plushenko skated, the crowd was like sort of silent and, in a way, nervous for him. It was cool to see that."

My respect for him, Zhenya's a great guy. So many years of skating, so many the gold medals and another at the Olympics, for our country ...

Thanks, plushyfan! During the individual SP warm-up, Evan suddenly exclaimed "Oh, no!" and when asked what had happened, he said that Plushy was injured and would have to withdraw. That is what I remember, but I think it would be nice to have the exact quote & source, not just my vague remembrance.

    And great job! Really!
