So something like Groundhog's Day...if he sees his shadow/doesn't land the quad...? :laugh2: Honestly, I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario with the men...Yuzuru in particular...:hopelessness: But it can't be any worse than CoC. Can it???

Things can always get worse - always, always. Just remember that - especially with regard to the men - and you won't be too disappointed. However, there is always that small ray of hope lurking in some corner which you cannot quite seem to be able to kill... so some disappointment is inevitable. What? It's the men we are talking about here! In fact, this is my Mood Music for the men these days:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzD12qo1knM

Expresses my ominous feelings nicely - & makes me feel better.

But, back to Plushy... Any chance of video? I'm disappointed in SVT play - I thought they'd have everything up there that they won't be showing on telly as well, but it seems not... Though I'm not sure I had much hope about the Opening specifically, to be honest.

Was Edvin schedulled to perform in the Opening? Is this known for sure - or just assumed?

Because if he wasn't supposed to perform, and since he is there, well....

Well, Plushy has returned home it seems... There go my dreams... dashed... Then it is certainly puzzling - what was Edvin doing there if he didn't perform - and won't do so later? Peculiar...

Yes, it was all kind of odd, wasn't it? I saw a photo of them all sitting together in the stands on hard plastic seats...didn't look comfortable. I guess there's no VIP section there. Just thinking that maybe they didn't feel like hanging around and dealing w/the crowds and pestering fans and whatnot, but I have no idea if that was their plan from the start. Really seems like a wasted trip (not that I wasn't happy to see him being honored, but all that flying in the space of a few days?).

Maybe they were there to finalize Snow King coming to China? And the opening ceremony was just a bonus?

Yes, this is totally incomprehensible...But the start of the story I read D/W and Plushy will skate short programs http://shanghai.xinmin.cn/msrx/2015...sina-1-14511-397232819ff9a47a7b7e80a40613cfe1.

I'm sure that was the information. And they invited Edvin too. But after they changed their idea and forgot to say Edvin....

THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD SKATING TO SHANGHAI
During the opening ceremony of the World Championships in 2015 the enlightened organizers have given the public four performances by legendary skaters that have shaped the history of the Chinese and world skating.
The poetry of Chen Lu, Davis / White, Shen / Zhao and ... he simply Plushenko that breaks the atmosphere created. The ice in Shanghai Evgeni seems volerselo devour. Incredible energy harnessed in initially calibrated gestures, elegant and in a posture by Zar, however, at the appointed time, it explodes in a sequence of steps to speed 'of light that it drags the whole audience.

Quell 'oscillate between extremes, between the most intense passion and poise more detached and cold there is, typically Russian if you will, with eyes of ice, is what creates the pathos in the public unable to take my eyes off him for everything time.

That look of what is sure to unleash. He knows he will be so because it is always so. The public has never betrayed because he has never betrayed the public. If you have only one minute to, then I concentrated all that can give a minute and unleash hell.
And a minute of "concentrate Plushenko" is pure emotion. Chills!

It all starts on the notes of the Olympic Godfather. A 3T ..... and then the sequence of steps. Deliberately "simplified" for the show, but effective for speed and intensity unique! And what better conclusion if the notes of the Adagio visceral? All this "mixed" with black costume and long hair blonde, long for added effect of speed (grant us the digression).

And 'enough to reconfirm, if necessary, his reputation as the most charismatic figure skater ever.
A great opening for this great competition!

Maybe Edvin was in China for another reason? Has he gone home too?

Shame Plushy didn't stick around to see Liza (hopefully!) become World Champ, guess he's a busy guy... Or maybe he liked taxi driving so much he wants to take it up professionally! :D

Maybe in disguise, so as not to be recognised? "Undercover Taxi Driver" - could be an interesting movie. ;)

a new Voronov interview

http://fsrussia.ru/intervyu/931-ser...figurnom-katanii-ne-mogut-byt-privychkoj.html

part of Plushy

After the departure of coach in America you moved to St. Petersburg. How Come?
- I've always liked the academic art of the St. Petersburg school. Yes, and there trained Zhenya Plushenko. It seemed to me that it is imperative to go to Peter, even though he knew that with our family financial possibilities it will be difficult. But we took a chance. I took Galina Valentinovna Kashin, who treated me very well. With it, we learned a triple axel. In addition to this I have been training on the same ice with Plushenko. And when you train next to a strong athlete, it's a different story.

Plushenko was already a star, probably looked down at all?
- Plushenko is one of the few who did not then snorted at my appearance. All other indigenous St. Petersburg embraced my arrival, to put it mildly, a "lukewarm." At first it was a shame, but I knew it husks. Patient, telling myself that if something is standing, then through the pass. In general, thanks to the guys, they motivated me great. Tried to break, but it makes only stronger and meaner.
Zhenya became for me a model of the sports endurance. He's a real fighter. And it's not just empty words. Perhaps someone Plushenko seems hard to communicate. But if he had looked into the eyes of all, it would long ago have "eaten" and buried.
....

As a result, due to an injury, you withdrew from the Junior World Championship in Canada.
- ....
Against the background of the disease suffered a stress fracture foot. Three months of treatment. World Championship 2005 in Moscow, watched on TV. Summer Urmanov went to a show in Korea.
I slowly recovered themselves. Rode in the "Jubilee" with Plushenko. Jack had just started training after surgery. He helped me a great moral. I watched Plushenko works like not paying attention to what is happening around, but on the eve of the Olympics that only about it or write.
Jack was able to recover, won in Turin. I'm in the same year became the second at the Junior World Championships. The next season performed on adult stages of the Grand Prix. At the junior world was the third, and in the adult during any program again broke his leg. For the third time.

A great opening for this great competition!

Coming back to say thank you, plushyfan, for posting lelo's essay...I really liked her use of words, which captured the special things about Evgeni's skating: the power and intensity that "drag the whole audience", "unleash hell", "chills". These words suggest a sense of sublimity, as opposed to mere prettiness. And of course, charisma, also a form of sublimity--the sense of intensified and heightened presence of this man, "concentrated Plushenko", all that is what is within him, on the ice. To me (I know I've gone on about this before), this sublimity is what makes Evgeni truly unique, artistically, among skaters.

(By the way, to be completely honest, I am not a huge fan of some of the "aesthetics" (for lack of a better word) that seems to be implied in the way many skating fans and experts discuss the "artistry" of skaters and their performances nowadays. This is not a statement about skaters themselves or their performances, actually, but more on the "theoretical" side. It seems to me that if people are going to talk about "art" in figure skating to any extent at all, then it cannot be completely disconnected to the theory and practice of art in general--something outside of and greater than figure skating. But maybe that's a rant for another day...)

Not to do with anything previously in this thread! But, I finally watched my first non-Olympics live skating event and wow...so many falls! I feel like I've gained an even bigger appreciation for Plushy and his consistency! I've been watching old programs of his and apart from a few very rare falls now and then the guy brings it every time short program or free skate!

I was wondering on Twitter with a friend of mine if this is a hold-over from the 6.0 days when a fall could really sink you? Or seeing as I only watched Plushy's programs out of those past competitions other people really did fall down as much as skaters today.

Makes me feel like people - whether they like how he skates or not - should recognise!

Also that Mishin's teaching of jumping technique is flawless. :points:

I think he definitely benefitted a lot from Mishin's jump technique...I also think a lot of the falls nowadays are due to the far more complex programs with more transitions. It takes a lot of stamina to try to pack everything in for max points. Plus you have more guys attempting more quads, knowing they can rotate & fall & still get points.

A lot of people complain about Plushy's programs being empty, then the same ones complain that we don't see more consistency and clean programs. It's a tricky balancing act. Voronov always gets ripped on for not having more transitions, but I didn't see him fall once this season (the popped jumps are another story ). The only other one I can say that about is Misha Ge, who didn't attempt quads. Skaters should plan layouts they know they can execute, but you can't really blame for trying to work the system.

Plus, people have short memories and I think there were many bad performances in the past that are just forgotten, for the most part. Especially if you are talking about skaters that never really amounted to much...not a lot of us are going to Youtube some random skater's 27th place program at 2003 Worlds, for example.

Yes, agree with both of you.The new programs are more complex, with more TRs the skaters attempting more quads. But if you remember when PLu and Yag competed , fought with each other they attempted 3 quads( one in SP and two in LP, and two of those were in combination) and they didn't fell. And if you remember Plushy almost never fell in the shows and galas and we can't say this about the other skaters.... So I didn't think the complex program is the main and sole reason of the falls...

And that is also true those FS fans who don't like Plushy use to say his programs are empty. And they say this about his Swan program but that wasn't true. They said that because they were talking about PLu. I agree he had no so many TRs like Chan has, but that was a nice program and he has enough TRs. I become nervous, annoy me the too many TRs.

Congratulations to Lisa, my younger friend by the group with an outstanding skating, overcoming difficult season and with a brilliant triumph at the World Championship! You are the champion of the World, Liza! I'm proud of you! Also i'm proud of my coach, with whom I work 21 years! Alexei Nikolaevich, this is and Your victory, because you always believe in yours athletes, even when no one believes in them! Thank you for this, Liza's 3.5 Axel, for the faith in us, for your strategy and perseverance! Cheers!

very interesting Plu and Liza won their first WCh title with Bolero program http://www.oninstagram.com/photo/bo...o-elizavetatukta-947612584394981267_409980862

I remember the article, when Tyktamisheva hesitated at the beginning of the season whether to skate SP on Bolero, Plushy supported her and gave her some advices you can see traces of 2001 Plushenko, in today Liza's skating.

OMG both of those are gold! I can't believe CBC choose Plushy to represent the '00s - a fine compliment indeed!

Oh and speaking of Tango Amore a young up and coming Chinese boy named Boyang Jin skated to that music at the Gala tonight - it was kind of hilarious because he looked about 10, so it wasn't the best match. He did try two quads though (alas he fell) so Plushy can be proud. Maybe that's why Edvin went?
