He came in sixth and elatedly told his mother that. She said that considering the sacrifices his family was making, sixth wasn't good enough. He came back next year and won, becoming the youngest men's Junior World Champion. :biggrin:

Anyone who can read Chinese--or understand Russian--to translate this? I can make out some phrases, "Loving yourself and other people." "The love of your friends." "The world"?? Sorry, this is worse than my attempts at translating the Japanese documentary.

Or we can pretend he's saying some combination of skating, ice, Yana, skating, quad, golf, skating, cars, children, skating, and did I mention skating?

LOL...well, I only know about 20 Russian words and one of them is skating - "kataniye" (not sure about the spelling). I didn't hear that one. But I would guess family would be in there, if he mentioned friends. At least one would hope so.

Woah, what a montage! Love the editing--the part where he tries on the glasses in the interview, then cut to the glasses in a performance. :laugh:

Where did this person get all the footage anyway? 4-jump combo in Je Suis Malade costume at The Ice? That adorable shot of him with Carolina? Rare stuff! (Or have I been out of the loop?)

This is only from the Chinese captions, so it may not be 100% accurate or complete..."Love is the feeling towards the people closest to you, love represents kindness, love represents friendship, love represents respect. Love toward one's friends, love toward one's significant other, and love towards the whole world. What can I say? What's important is that I love you all, I love Artistry on Ice."

(From the background, I think this was taped during Sochi, when he visited "Chinese House" there.)

^Thank you for the translation, WhiteBamboo. I tried to make sense of it but I could only read one word in five of the captions.

Maybe this is a weird place to discuss this, but I noticed your graph of his programs on your blog. It was interesting to see how you plotted his programs--I understood most of what you were going for, but at the same time I know I would've marked a few programs differently. Probably goes to show how subjective programs are, even when reduced to just two parametres.

Have you (or anyone else here) met him or been to his shows or competitions? I am so sad that I didn't get into skating until fairly late in his career, and probably missed any chance to see him relatively close to home.

Maybe he'll bring his show overseas? Or get some invites? Seeing him in competition would probably be unlikely at this point... He's not going to randomly pop up at Skate America (as amusing as that would be).

I was in his show. I bought the more expensive ticket I sat in the first row, but the arena was too huge and the first row was too far from the ice.. approx 3 meters.( I don't know how many foots) thus I didn't hug him. But I wanted.
He landed in 3A front of me and he stood front of me and blew kiss for us. That is more than the nothing.

Oh my goodness, I'm sure that experience watching him was amazing even from a distance! I had not seen that interview, although I'm subscribed to his channel on Youtube (so many videos, so little time!). Is it just me or does he look even hotter than normal in that video? I don't know what it is - I really liked that haircut, maybe that's it. And any time he's speaking English it makes me melt a little bit. :love:

I saw a few photos from that ball where he was with Elena and Adelina, looking very smart in a suit. Those lucky women on Instagram! I hope this doesn't sound too "new age"-y or crazy, but I think he does have a special kind of aura about him.

Doesn't sound crazy at all. I haven't had the chance to see him live either, but it's interesting to see fan videos of his performances. I think, in many instances, they capture something the professional camera crew doesn't. The effect he has on the audience, how he projects, what it feels like to be sitting there by the ice...
