Yulia's interview: the coaches did not approve her Mulan program; maybe she will alter FS program.

Oh oh...:slink::eek:hwell:
They approved of freaking Schindler's List!!
Music from a movie which deals with the mass-executions of thousands of people.
She played a Jewish girl that was being murdered for God's sake! In the Olympic season, at 15 years of age.
And they didn't mind(maybe cause they sensed the brilliance of this idea).
And now they have a problem with Mulan ...?

Oh and interesting to read that she thought strategically with Mulan, since the big events will be in China!
I remember somebody writing this earlier and I thought 'Nooo, she sure wouldn't think that strategically'
But indeed she did

I do not think that they did not like a theme. The program is not prepared properly.

Yulia tells: "Specialists did not like a program at test skates. And the program did not existed per se. Ilya (Averbuch) had to go away, we had no enough time to do something."
"Now what?"
YL: "To change FS program. There is another alternative in stock. Eteri and me like it but we are waiting for Ilya."

Yea theres a bit lost in translation. Yulia also tends to be overly dramatic. I'm sure whether they stick with Mulan or the other one it will be good. Maybe the other one is something we would like even better.

Ok then it's a different story it's just that you said
"They did not approve her Mulan program."
So I thought. .. well yeah, that they did not approve of her doing a Mulan program

As we explained some days ago, the test skates are done for this purpose. Do they like the program? Does the program work, etc.etc. So when they say "they did not approve", it's because of these reasons.

I like the fact that she is not rushing things (there is no need to push and rush it), and she is putting a lot of thoughts into it.
As she says in the interview: we deliberately did not want to rush things, there is no need to be in top shape six weeks before the first competition.

Important thing is that she is fit physically and her new skates are ok.

Was Mulan the 2nd one?

As per her interview, translated above:

First we tried the sountrack to the movie Perfect Sense, and initially, everyone was really excited about that, but it didn't work out. Maybe because I did not like either the music or the idea. There were some interesting details, but it just didn't work well as a whole. It just wasn't me.

Now we are going to try another option, which both Eteri Georgievna and I like, but we will wait for Ilya to come back to hear his opinion. He has a fine understanding of music, he creates vivid and memorable programs, and we want to continue working with him.

The article that Alba posted mentioned that they tried 1 option but Yulia didn't like it so they scrapped it for Mulan. I like that she takes such an interest in the music/program, she shows a lot of maturity to want to do something different from last season - maybe if more skaters did this we would have more diversity in music choices.

I pulled the relevant quotes:

The short was easy, but we had problems with the free. After the Olympics, I didn't want to skate to something trivial, and I also thought we should postpone serious things for a while. After The Schindler's List I needed to switch to something else. First we tried the sountrack to the movie Perfect Sense, and initially, everyone was really excited about that, but it didn't work out. Maybe because I did not like either the music or the idea. There were some interesting details, but it just didn't work well as a whole. It just wasn't me. Second variant was Mulan soundtrack. It's a cartoon, but the theme suited me, we could work with that. Besides, there were Chinese motives, and the World championships are held in Shanghai, so it would have been nice.

Absolutely agree. That's why I'm confident, no matter how much time it will take.
It's the final result that matters, and she need to like a program which she's going to skate for a whole season.

Hmm....not sure where to start.

At first I was a little uneasy that she still has no FS but after reading the full interview it sounds like she is still in control and looking to do things her way on a time frame they feel is best for her. It's actually kind of funny that she just showed up to an event like the mighty Russian test skates which would certainly scare the living crap out of any of us here and she went ahead and skated an unfinished program on new skates. She probably didnt even care much but now I'm just projecting.

Anyway...so there is chatter about her re-using SL which I think would be a bad idea. Why not just make Megaoplis her FS and extend it and bring back last years SP? She could drop the whole drawing on ice thing and maybe sell the program as the Gold medal that got away. She could play herself in Sochi going for the gold and coming up short only to again not give up on her love of skating. Has anyone ever played themselves as a character. She clearly could understand the role and portray images and feelings that only she felt.

Ilya better deliver and get to work with her because she is a major reason for his success and without her his summer ice shows would have been less successful. I'm not mad yet but I'm close to putting him on my SL and the 'S' doesn't stand for Schindler's. With the way the interview ended by assuring us that she had planned to take her time I'm quite calm...for now.

Maybe Ilya is trying to think of new idea for Yulia. :frown: I hope they will be on time.
But for sure, Yulia is a champion. No matter how young she is, she knows what she should do for herself to improve. I am a bit disappointed if she skips Japan Open. But if needed then I hope she will skip it to focus on the new program.
