    Shocker of the Season

This season has so many unexpected things that has happened, so I think this should deserve its own thread
here is my lists so far:

1 Weaver/Poje not making The Grand Prix Final and beaten by Bobrova/Soloviev Twice
    2 Machida winning over Daisuke
3 Osmond winning Skate Canada, amid being super inflated scores
4 Voronov medaling at CoC, he medalled before in a GP ? a weak field but still if you are an anonymous or has no records even as a junior winning an event you can still medal as a senior, lol
5 Leonova bombing and No Grand Prix Final
6 Collision with Song and Rippon, and Nan getting hospitalized
7 Joubert pulling out of FS in Cup of China and getting sick

    Junior
1 Han Yan not qualifying to the JGP Final

    In the JGP:
Han Yan (reigning worl champion) not making the final
Ju/Jin being 2 and 4 in their events
    And, in The senior GP:
Leonova being just 7 at SA
    Gold bombing
Zhang in the "Flatt-situation" (good programs but low scores because of PCS and GOE)

My theory is top skaters are battling each other for the underdog status into the Olympics.

LOL- don't want to go in with too much expectation!

Big shcoker Mao having two triples.

It was mentioned but this is Voronov's second Cup of China bronze.

Then you have the pairs with V/T and S/S and P/T all winning so no upsets!

Dance has been the same for three years now. DW and VM 1 and 2 in whatever order and P/B third and P/B only threatened if they dont do an element. 4th keeps changing.

yeah Voronov did medal before at CoC as you mentioned but still unexpected for someone who never excelled even before even as junior, Voronov is classified as an anonymous or obscure skater

regarding the upsets, this season is the determining factor
But I think the biggest shake up will be next season

    4 shocks in dance:

    Of course the Zoueva/Shpilband breakup!

The huge makeover of Bobrova & Soloviev between one year and the next, leading to their beating W&P twice. (Assisted by the Weaver & Poje coaching team who did not fix their FD's spin (level 2 in 3 different outings)

V&M have only the 4th best score for an SD so far this season on the GP

    Davis & White 71.39 (USA)

    Pechalat & Bourzat 69.15 (CHN)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlxBYZOMwao
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUgUwWq77MY

    Weaver & Poje 65.79 (USA) 65.59 (CHN)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2PD41qtZmI

    Virtue & Moir 65.09 (CAN)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scF0wOQkNYk
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYvsgsPQ7ww&feature=plcp

And perilously close to Capellini & Lanotte and Bobrova & Soloviev:

    Capellini & Lanotte 65.08 (CAN)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrJaz_hKNAE

    Bobrova & Soloviev 64.32 (CHN) 62.91 (USA)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW6LtwXQ8_A

Even with a fall in the twizzles at last year's GPF, V&M were scored far ahead of P&B, W&P and B&S, and C&L didn't even qualify for the GPF.
In fact, V&M are behind P&B in total score too on the season's best list, if you compare their first event.
    P&B at CHN 169.73
    V&M at CAN 169.41

TEB, NHK & COR will be a bit more interesting! (Although I expect V&M to kick butt & take names at COR)

Not to mention, D&W doing a believable ballet on ice (Giselle) interpretation, including a polka (almost too strange to believe in several ways)

Voronov is two times the Russian Champion, and 2 more times has medalled there, had also won Junior russian championship before. Internationally his higher finish at euros was 4th and 10th at worlds and he has medaled in the past at COC and TEB (at TEB actually was silver behind Chan), at Juniors he has medalled to some Jgps and two times at Junior Worlds, behind Kozuka and Chan actually. Yes he is not one of the top skaters but his career is comparable to lets say..Rippon's.

You were surprised that Joubert puller out due to injury? Hasn't that been like every competition he's been in for the past million years?? LOL

I think he had withdrawn two times in TEb, and GPF in olympic season, it is hardly every competition.

Yes, so LOLsy, skaters being sick and injured.

That said, I'd hardly consider Joubert's being sick a shocker. Stuff happens.

Events that Joubert has WD'd from that I know of, and why:
2007 TEB - illness, before the event - I remember reading about it at the time, it was some weird thing that knocked him out for several weeks.
2008-9 GPF - back injury, after the SP (he'd been in 3rd place) and also missed French Nats.
2009-10 GPF - foot injury that required surgery, withdrew before the event and missed French Nats.
2010 TEB - gastro, withdrew before the LP. I think he'd been in 5th place.
2011 GP - withdrew before CoC due to a back injury and also missed TEB.

Joubert is one of the older competitors around and hasn't been healthy for a full season for some time, I hope he can make it through next season without any major medical issues.

Shockers of the season so far for me would be Machida winning CoC and Osmond winning SC. Chan's 2nd place finish was somewhat more expected after his JO showing. Shocker of the off-season was the Shpilband-Zoueva split.
