2012 Russian FSO Awards (one of a kind teddy bears, dressed as the skaters who won the awards) for the 2011-2012 season were announced, awarded by Russian fans:

In this thread in The Edge, Alex Rus reports that Russian FSO fans voted for best Foreign dancers, & selected Tessa & Scott.

They received their bears at CoR:

The fans also give out an award for best dance program of the year. Meryl & Charlie won that for Die Fledermaus.
I believe they will get their bears at GPF.

Nice sendoff interview with Tessa & Scott.

“We actually changed all three of our footwork sequences, trying to be creative and hit the levels,” Virtue said. “We don’t want to lose any of that creativity (their theme this season is to try new things) and I think for the best, hopefully, we’ll nail our Level 4s. We’re excited about that and focusing on the Yankee Polka (short dance).”

Thanks for flagging the interview, Doris.

And hats off to LFP for choosing the accompanying photo showing Virtue/Moir's reaction to last year's GPF FD marks. Although it's always nice to see them in a performance shot or happy moment, this photo instead powerfully portrays the high stakes of elite competition.

I can't believe that we're lucky enough to have two such phenomenal couples to watch. It's like winning two lotteries at the same time. And they're both North American? It doesn't get much better than this.

I wish they have picked a photo from Worlds, not that one.

It's kind of unfair to Tessa & Scott.

In hindsight, I should have added, "YMMV," to my previous post.

I do not find the photo at all disrespectful or unflattering to Virtue/Moir. If I did, I never would have called attention to the image (in a fan thread or anywhere else). And I do not think their hometown newspaper would go out of its way to be unfair to them.
The article quotes Moir re their mindset and results at last year's GPF, so to me, choosing the pic makes sense editorially.
The reporter notes that they used last year's GPF as motivation for winning their second world title. For me, the photo captures that pivotal moment of absorbing a setback along the way to reaching their ultimate goal (for that season) -- which is what champions like V/M do (and which I believe they themselves would say is all part of sport).

Ice dancers are generally good looking and I think V&M are not only one of the current world's best ice dancers, but pretty much the best looking couple too.

Yes, as if their athletic and artistic abilities do not already take our breath away, Virtue and Moir are exceptional eye candy too (separately as well as together).

    ETA:
I forgot to say that V/M are on the CBC ballot for Canada's Athlete of the Year.
Patrick Chan is too, as well as four athletes from other sports.
"Our poll closes on Friday at 5 p.m. ET" -- not sure, but I think that means Fri Dec 7.
" ... we'll reveal The People's Pick next Saturday during our ISU Figure Skating coverage of the Grand Prix Final from the Iceberg Rink in the Olympic city of Sochi, Russia." http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/scott...ples-pick.html

    ETA:
Virtue and Moir looking forward to London and Sochi
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are looking forward to skating near home in London, Ontario.

Well, I should have added YMMV to mine, too.

Video interview with Tessa & Scott as they head off to the GPF

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/fencing/video/#id=2311870957

And there will be a report after the event from a Canadian perspective from www.ice-dance.com, pick the Features Tab, and Northern Lights from the drop down.

There's a bit of a preview there in Blog entry #24.

Per a tweet from Lois Elfman, she has completed an article for which she interviewed Weaver/Poje (among others). It now is in the hands of an editor at Dance International magazine.
[ETA: I see now that the the W/P article is for the Spring 2013 issue, per a subsequent tweet from @LoisElfman.]

Although the W/P article still is forthcoming, when I was on the DI site, I stumbled across its Summer 2010 article re Virtue/Moir, which was new to me. In case anyone else missed it at the time, or would like to re-read it now:
The cover page photo is of V/M, and the article is on pp. 6-9. Not surprisingly, the focus was on the importance of dance to their skating.

I had come across that magazine in a bookstore! It has some lovely photos, especially of Tessa en pointe. Thanks for the link. I'm looking forward to rereading it. I'm so glad that dance is important to the two of them.

CBC aired CSOI last night and I really enjoyed the show. Especially the closeups. Although we had excellent on ice tickets in April you cannot see the expression on their faces unless they are really close to you.

To me they are certainly the royalty of ice dance and even figure skating in general.

Although these photos prob. were taken at Skate Canada International, I hadn't seen them then:

I always coveted a pair of the Vancouver 2010 mittens, and the 2012 counterparts are eye-catching too. [As are the golden couple from Vancouver serving as models. ]

    ETA:
Chan, Balde, Duhamel/Radford, Osmond also are among the mitten mavens shown here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...4833263&type=1
