Today Yamamoto did great, showed quite expressive and speedy skating. So he jumped from 11th to 4th position. Uno was almost clean but his flutzing is just horrible- there is simply no lutz edge, none whatsoever, and the point is - no sign that it will ever show up. His jumps are quite low, but he looks very confident, with good musicality. Anyway, Uno's silver at Junior Nationals is his best result, for now.
Hino had a good day again, as in SP. The duel of Hino and Tanaka was the main intrigue of JN, considering that both have elements of major difficulties in the arsenal. You can't win J-Nationals, even Junior, with safe skating policy. His 3A-3T was rock solid and got fairly rewarded by judges. The 3A in the second half had a step out and he touched the ice with the hand. In general his umps are quite high. The entrances in spin are mysterious, like he was just exiting the jump and now he is spinning, or immediately after steps with no preparation. The position in sitspin is rather unique too, like an octopus with wavy legs, I have no idea how he can manage to move them like that and fix in those positions. The steps were a little slow I think. I also don't like his upper body, too stiif, with no neck or he doesn't know how to use it.
Tanaka was a champion in banners, had the biggest number of it. He was really good in a warm-up, did all stuff with 3A, then 3A in combo, 3-3- combos, just cool. But. Maybe he did it too much in a warm-up, or was under the pressure that he couldn't deal with (he was skating the last), or whatever the reason was. He sat too deep in the first 3A, so unexpectedly considering how good he was in a warm-up, and probably it spooked him. In the second 3A he managed to add 2T only. Then he had a fall and doubled his toe, well. Not his day surely. The spins were very good and fast. Tanaka is maybe the tallest guy in Team Japan now, taller than Mura, had pretty much the same body type, Mura still has more muscles. Keiji would make a perfect brand champion. But today he got nervous or whatever while Hino didn't. So Hino won! Btw, for those who were interested to know if Hino can represent Russia since his father is Russian and knowing all the troubles in Russia's Men field, the answer is - no. His father told me today that Hino doesn't have a Russian citizenship (some Russia's law requirement back in 1995, has been changed a lot since then).

In Girls Miyahara won with a big advantage in both segments. Her FS was R&J in piano version (yawn), she was wearing a dress borrowed from Bobrova's junior times. She tried to look mature and she actually succeeded in it. Still it looked a little odd when such a tiny girl was playing drama in heavy make-up. Kato executed elements not badly but she was so terribly wooden. Hongo skated Swan () in Bobrova's black Faust dress adjusted for Ladies skating, like a shorter skit, etc. Her jumps are confident but she looks round-shouldered to me. Matsuda skated small with not much risk, so she lost the medal.

It was really nice to see a competiton with fair judgement, no politics involved but with high level of skating.
