Those typically hurt the most - lightening strike falls, that is...
Personally, I wouldn't describe Ashley 2A fall as 'slipping off an edge'. It happened fast, of course, but as I was watching it on live tv, I KNEW that 2A was going to be underrotated the moment she got up in the air. I'm not a technical specialist at all, but I think the timing was off and/or there was just not enough speed and height. She fell because of the underrotation.
I did read on GS that it was actually the fall on the 3S that hurt her hip, which surprised me as *that* did look like a typical slightly underrotated jump results in two footing + falling off the edge. The Dutch commentator was saying on the replay "that *didn't* hurt, skaters are used to that, the fall on the 2A otoh..." But apparantly the fall on the 3S did hurt?
My son played rugby for years and had several hip pointers. I realize there are different degrees, etc. etc. but if Ashley had a hip pointer I don't believe she could have continued the way she did. They sting like $%^$ and can almost immobilize you. Let's continue to hope that she's just badly bruised and stiff and didn't want to take a chance until she was sure it was just a bruise.
So if Wagner has to withdraw from the U.S. Nationals as well, do you think she will get a bye to the World Championship?
I would be shocked if she wasn't granted one, if she withdraws from Nationals and requests a bye to Worlds. I think they would do what they did with all the other past skaters who were awarded byes- make her do a test skate with USFS appointed doctors to ensure her fitness to compete. No US lady in the past couple years has had the consistency/ international results Ashley has had.. I think she is the US' best option in trying to get three spots for the Olympics next season.
no no no no no no i'm probably gonna cry if she's seriously injured. praying that this isn't anything that will keep her off the ice long term and that she will make nationals and worlds again! she's had too much success for something to stop her :(
I'm hoping it's all "doom-and-gloom" talk and she will be alright...but I don't think we'll know the real deal for another 1-2 weeks- perhaps even until year's end.
I'll tell you this though- the road of the reigning US champion is cursed indeed. Skategods not being friendly at all
