Sorry I don't quite follow this argument. Are you saying Kozuka, Oda, or Takahashi are jumping beans and not much more? People always drop in rankings when someone else with comparable PCS outjumps them.

That is not what I said. You'd note that my comments were comparing Oda and Mura. It is easier to assess the style of a judging panel using results from lower ranked skaters than it is to use results from the top skaters.

With respect to your last comment, I don't agree.

Would you say Oda and Mura have comparable PCS based on their SP in Sapporo even though Mura outjumped Oda?

Furthermore, would you say Kozuka's 11th place finish at the 2012 Worlds is a result of Denis Ten, 7th place, outjumped him despite comparable PCS?

That's my point precisely, Oda and Mura do not have comparable PCS, yet because Mura landed jumps, he almost beat Kozuka who was superior in the 6 of the other 7 elements and in all 5 components of the PCS. Does that make sense to you, a single jumping element carries so much weight?

And very first time for me to see Akio actually lands a clean 3A (almost) at competitions. Skating fans in Japan know that 3A has been his biggest enemy whole his skating career. What a huge achievement he has made at this particular competition! And when it comes to 'dancing ability on ice', Akio is as good as Daisuke.

Kento is going to skate in the final group of Mens Free tonight. He may get very nervous, but I think it's a good opportunity to make a name for himself among J-boys in such depths.

It was so heartbreaking for us=skating fans to see his and his coaches' sad faces on TV, wasn't it?...;;;

Sad to say but except very top skaters who are talented enough to go to international comps and with financial backup from JSF, there comes the time for most of boys and girls have to give up their competitive skating at the age 22 (meaning graduating from colleges) in Japan...

If anything, Takahashi's scores were too high for URed 4t and an edge called on the 3lutz.

Not necessary. The tech pannel and judges work separately. The fact that judges didn't punish him as much as they should be for ur 4T and e on 3L means that they didn't see UR and edge call on those jumps, so they gave what they gave- -1/-2 GOE for shaky landing on the rotated quad and +GOE for a solid 3L combo. The judges and the tech pannel clearly didn't have the same opinion regarding those elements which make the whole judging look even more stupid and cooked than it's already is. The most laughable comment came from a referee of JN justifying level 3 for Dai's Stsq after CoC (he got level 4 plus +2 GOE at NHK): not enough use of upper body .

As a side note, in the vid I saw, Takeshi Honda commented on how Daisuke Takahashi indeed UR his 4T during the slow motion replay. I hope that will lay to rest any conspiracy theory that JSF has already fixed the results because if even the TV commentators can see the UR, not just the Tech Panel, then chances are the call was correct. The edge call was even clearer and Honda commented on that as well but I am not sure if he has access to preliminary protocol at that point or not.

I love sofa specialists! They are so charming in their ridiculous statements sitting with popcorn and talking about things they have no idea about. First, dear, no matter who comments, Honda, Shizuka or the TV guy whose name you never heard of, they never ever in Japan question judges' decision. That is how it works here. From the western point of view it's not clearly a "commenting" since the comment usually should include the opinion. They commentators here simply give the information that they have access to earlier than the public. And nothing more. Moreover, even if due to whatever miracle the commentator started to express the opinion that differs from judges', so what I wonder. They do it all the time on non-J TV channels, Russian or European or N.American, etc. Read what you said- things are right because the TV commentator said so! Gosh..

Dai did make mistakes, but judges are usually more generous at home, but seems Dai didn't get as much home competition benefit relative Hanyu and his impressive GOEs especially just came off as the new GPF champion.

To be fair Dai never actually got any super benefits from JSF in his career. It reminds me the Plu story-no matter how hard Piseev&Co. tried, they always failed. There are things that officials can't control- love of the audience, popularity and acceptance or not by public. Many officials are little people afterall who get easily envious of someone else's success that is beyond their influence.

I am afraid so...Unlike last night, Fuji TV does not plan to broadcast live. Except those who attend the competition in the arena, we, I mean all skating fans in Japan, have to sit in front of TV until 7pm for the delayed broadcast starting with Ladies SP tonight...
