Wow, Mitchell Gordon is a really promising young talent. Even more important after such a disappointing short. And just 16. He's one to watch for the future. He could be Patrick Chan's successor for Canada on the world stage.

He didn't try any 3 axels, he tried only one lutz and that wasn't landed well, plus he also fell once.

LOL at the score for Reynolds. That is why nobody takes the scores from Canadian Nationals seriously. That said good to see him skate so well today.

Nobody takes National scoring seriously period (though I agree that Canada seems VERY extreme compared to other nations, save maybe Russia)/

I've always wondered why judges inflate scores at some nationals. What is the point? Not much of a political boost if no one takes it seriously due to the reputation of inflation.

Not to mention ethics and professionalism...

ETA: it was a comment in general, I did not realize the post I quoted referred to Kevin.

    I HAVE NO IDEA.

Anyway, I am glad that Rogozine came third. He needed to to make it easier on Skate Canada to select him. I do hope that Balde gets sent to 4CC anyway (I'm assuming Chan skips it again - he's only been to two in his senior career) just to get the score. Good for Gordon for coming back - he's the future of the Canadian men imo.

    ETA: From icenetwork

Then it's back to Colorado Springs to focus on training until he leaves for worlds. Chan's going to let other skaters take on the Four Continents Championships.
So likely Reynolds, Rogozine and Balde in Japan.

I was thinking Chan must have skated bad for his scores to be close to Reynolds.

Like where would Reynolds get those kind scores...short and long.

I thought the mark should have been much closer. I would have given the edge to Kevin Reynolds.

So, if a skater lands four quads in his Nationals program, the judges should only give him half scores on them so that they don't get accused of inflating? Yeah, I'd like to see the judges do that in any country.
