Doesn't look like Bell was very on track, either...multiple mistakes, including 2 falls.

Welcome, and I agree. I don't understand the serious look Mirai had at the end of her SP tonight. She had nailed it! But then it sounds a bit mean of me to nitpick when she had such a great night. I blame it on the short program. I don't think it suits her and I think she has to think through the music and the steps of this type of music. she can move to it technically quite well but it doesn't seem natural.

That's really weird. I never made that connection. Her exhibition programs always have the spark that we used to see from her. Maybe it's the pressure. I definitely prefer no spunk and no fall versus lots of spunk and lots of splat.

FWIW, Mirai got 29.66 in PCS. vs 28.82 at NHK.

Mirai's certainly capable of landing her jumps and skating with freedom (2010 Nationals and Olympics). And I think Mirai's SP this year shows more spunk and energy than anything she's done since 2010.

Bell gets 37.78 and into 16th.

    Next up, Queen Ashley Wagner.

No stream, so I'll be looking for more on youtube, I guess. I thought that ice network had livestreams for Skate America and Nationals for all registered users, but it's saying that I have to pay. I've seen one user uploaded practice videos, like this one of Ashley.

Agreed. Some of the programs were really not "mirai." They seemed very generic. So the question is, will she feel less pressure being in 1st after the short or being 2nd or 3rd to Wagner and/or Agnes?

Ashely's short is really special. I do love the choreo and what she does with it. It did seem like she was pushing through it but WHEW! Good for her.

I think Mirai's SP in 2010 nationals showed a lot more personality than this one. This music warrants some connection to the audience and there wasn't any, still, she skated very well.
