Hey, what's up? I wanted to talk about the Harlem shake.
Here is what I found out about it, from that vanguard of cutting edge culture, the New York Times.
This dance originated in 1980 on the pick-up basketball courts of Harlem. I think the original idea was that when you made a shot over your opponent's lame so-called defense, then you did a little shake in his face. An entertainer named Al B (or Sysco) started doing it as entertainment during breaks in the action at outdoor basketball games. By the early 90s the dance became popular in music videos. In 2013 for some reason white people started doing it.
