I think it was interesting that Igor actually performed on ice during the Harlem Shake.

Hi, Doris,
In hindsight, I wish that instead of starting a new thread, I had hunted down the old Shpilband news thread and simply posted the H.S. video there. Would it make sense to merge this thread into that one?
Or ... might you want to change my original title for this thread to something more inclusive of all things Shpilband? I would hate for someone who couldn't care less about the H.S. to miss your link to program videos.
(Not trying to tell you what to do. Just my two cents. )

Hey, what's up? I wanted to talk about the Harlem shake.

Here is what I found out about it, from that vanguard of cutting edge culture, the New York Times.

This dance originated in 1980 on the pick-up basketball courts of Harlem. I think the original idea was that when you made a shot over your opponent's lame so-called defense, then you did a little shake in his face. An entertainer named Al B (or Sysco) started doing it as entertainment during breaks in the action at outdoor basketball games. By the early 90s the dance became popular in music videos. In 2013 for some reason white people started doing it.

And thank you for the bkgd on the Harlem Shake. I do remember its 15 minutes of mainstream popularity that came and went many years ago, and have been amused that some who have "discovered" it in 2013 believe that it is utterly new.

BTW, Nightline aired a story last night about the longevity of the current H.S. craze. (The video is 2:59 in length.)
